Feng Shui: Reenergize your Home this Winter

Winter always ends up being a time of more stillness, of coziness and just of being. The Winter is naturally a “yin” season; A quieter, more reflective period that encourages us to spend more time in the house, with our loved ones.

Winter is the season of the element water

There are five elements for Feng Shui: water, wood, fire, earth, and metal.

The Element Water is an essential component in the field of Feng Shui. Water represents intuition: the inner knowledge that allows the water element to guide you into a space of confidence. Enjoy the winter time to refuel, dream and plan changes to make in the next initial stages.

Winter is a time when the earth breaths, like a gestation period, it prepares to sustain life for another year. It offers us particular time for introspection. By creating a cozy and harmonious home during this period, the house itself will help you stay attentive and cheerful at this time of year.

When winter seems to be creeping, purifying our homes with new energy may just be healing. Read more about some Feng Shui remedies to organize your living space making it brighter, warmer, while staying in tune with the season.

Feng Shui Remedies for Winter Months

Clean Your Home With Citrus

With the cold, we have not opened the windows for a long time, and the energy and air of our houses can be tremendously stagnant. Fortunately, there is a simple cure to raise liveliness, refresh the air and prevent the accumulation of bacteria in our homes during these months: citrus

Citrus oils are more than pleasant smells. They are among the most useful essential oils. Just a few drops of lemon or orange oil will increase the power of cleaning products. They disinfect surfaces, purify the air and release a cheerful fragrance. Besides rejoicing those who are in a bad mood.

Do something new

While you have more time indoors during the colder season, it is a great time to work on all the projects you were wanting to get started. Cooking is a great way to add warmth, and joy to your home.  Create and try new soups and stews with seasonal vegetables is a great way to connect with nature since we cannot get our hands on the garden at this time of year. You can also try any other hobby you’ve always wanted to do.

Change the decoration of your home

When the energy is feeling “stuck” in the winter, maybe it is time for a small change in the environments. However, instead of buying things for a new decoration, you may find that you already have what you need. Try to move a vase, an image or even furniture from one room to another. You may be surprised how the energy changes just by moving something that has not been touched for some time, emptying it and giving it a new home. You can be inspired to redecorate your entire house with just a unique view of what you have.

Invite your friends to dinner.

Plan to celebrate the long winter nights with friends. Make sure you invite friends to dinner and share stories around the fire. Honor the taste sensation by cooking healthy organic seasonal food such as pumpkins and Zucchini.

Create a meditation chant

We know that spring and summer months are full of the yang and vibrant energy, yin energy is restful, silent and contemplative. Cultivate this seasonal energy, receiving it with open arms, which in turn will renew it for the more active seasons. It is natural to all of us to want to engage in more yin activities during the colder months, such as reading, sleeping and meditating. Create a space with more comfortable pillows or armchair and candles to feel cozier with this energy of renewal.

With winter months we experience much more darkness, so we end up spending a lot more energy on interior lighting. This is the time of year to audit your home’s lighting to ensure you are using energy-efficient bulbs in all of your fixtures. You can also add a few more daylight bulbs in certain areas to magnify your light entrance.

Let natural light enter

You should work to make the most of your full hours of light, and the best way to do that is to leave natural light instead of artificially illuminating your space. Create a distinct area in your home that captures more sun, warm with yang warm colors like burnt orange, yellows, and reds with a heartfelt shot and cushions where you can curl up with a good book. Always have some good books.

Make an assessment of what you really need

Are there things in your closet that you have not used for a long time? As you redecorate and rearrange, you may find that there are some things that you do not really need. If you have not used the item in more than six months, it’s time to say goodbye. If you are only accumulating dust, you are increasing your stagnant energy and need to go. In my Feng Shui consultations, I highly recommend always analyzing what works for you, what you can donate and even reform it for something that can make you more useful. Creativity is the key!
