Understanding the power of our questions can free us to experience what we want in our lives. Marilee Adams, author of Change Your Questions Change Your Life, encourages us to focus on learning from our experiences rather than being judgmental. Learning how to empower ourselves with an attitude of optimism, hope, and new possibilities to make our lives better no matter what our condition.
Seven Suggestions for the Asking of Empowering Questions
1. Structure questions wisely. When we ask a question, something inside of us starts to shift immediately. Our questions set the universe in motion to respond to us. We can craft questions in such a way that the answers come as the bodily felt a sense of having the experience that we want. For example, if we ask the question, “What is lack of freedom?” we get the answers in the form of experiencing a lack of freedom. This is not what we are looking for! What if we had structured the question, “What is the nature of experiencing freedom from the inside out? The answer would come as the experience of freedom from the inside out!
2. Change habits around how we ask questions. Like any habit, we need to go through a process of letting it go. We can (a) Identify what triggers us to ask a certain question. (b) Notice the details of how we are asking that question. Are we being judgmental of ourselves i.e. What’s wrong with me? (c) Write down details of how we could change the question. Remember that repetition is the mother of skill so practice, practice, practice!
3. Ask, “What am I thinking right now? Are we focusing on what we do not want or are we focusing on new possibilities, solutions, and resolutions? Are the questions we are asking adding value to our lives or creating resistance, constriction, or withholding?
4. Ask ourselves questions about the choices we are making at any given moment. Are we making choices that we know we will feel good about? Are we being part of the problem or part of the resolution right now? What is the nature of experiencing the most beneficial choice I can make? What is the nature of experiencing myself as part of the resolution?
5. Keep our energy in movement, opening the space in receiving the answers. Sing, dance, run, walk, laugh, play and do yoga with the intent to release tension, contraction, control, and manipulation.
6. Ask what is the nature of experiencing a connection to my source and its greater intelligence? Breathing, meditating and keeping our energy in motion will allow the space to receive the insights. Keep it simple. Renowned mentors, authors and speakers, George and Linda Pransky, share their simple overview that they call the 3 Principles. How we can simplify our lives by understanding that (1) We are literally one with our source and its greater intelligence (2) Our thinking molds and shapes our lives (3) Our senses allow us to experience the manifestation.
7. Ask with the expectation of receiving the answers. Asking empowering questions is a great way to create more awareness of our connection with Source. As we ask new questions, new energies begin moving through us. We find ourselves having new perspectives, changes and opportunities to understand how life works. As the energy of our source flows through us, we have expanding opportunities to connect and come to understandings with expanding questions. Discovering the summoning process of questions is where learning to trust, recognize and follow our impulses. We come to realize the perfection of our physical connection to our source. We discover who we are as we cultivate a visceral knowing of how we attract our desires. We may find ourselves holding back out of fear of the unknown. Our bodies will alert us to any of the resistance. We can let go once again to experience the universe guiding us to manifest from our inside out.
Life is designed to be good and fun for us. By summoning it with empowering questions, we can enjoy the journey of discovering who we are and the power we have to be part of the resolution in our world.
