Going Quantum: The Power of Focus
When our mindset is positive, we are using our power of focus to create a life we love. This is the quantum life-force energy of thought.
The Power of Focus
by Dagny Grant and Beth Donnelly
When we’re “going quantum,” allowing the smallest of thoughts to direct our lives in beautiful and amazing ways…we are open to the belief in the field of limitless possibilities.
Quantum? Hard to get smaller than a thought! It’s been said that everything that exists began with a thought. The focus of our thoughts creates the attention that we give to areas of our life. Let’s consider the power potential that we possess. The accumulated neural pathways created throughout our lives build the perceptions through which we experience our world. So, on what do we tend to focus on? Areas of thought may include finances, nature, music, sickness, friends & family, fears, worry, wellness or illness, hope, excited anticipation, grief, etc.…
Our lives are multi-faceted. Our work, play, relationships, health, moods, and beliefs form patterns that define our actions and expectations. Most of us don’t realize how much power we have in the creation of our lives. If we do understand that power, we can actively and intentionally participate in our focus of thought. The three areas below describe how this power of focus can affect our lives in either positive or negative ways.
1. Health & Body
If our focus is on hope and wellness, we will tend to nourish our bodies with things that are not toxic. Toxicity comes in many forms. For some, a life focused on worry & fear can be as toxic as a life of eating nothing but packaged foods and beverages high in sugars and lacking in nutrients.
It is a healthy practice to focus on the beauty and sensory elements of nature. Smell the scent of blooming flowers, hear the wind blow through the leaves of the trees, appreciate the peacefulness and majesty of a mountain, notice the movements of birds and other wildlife and acknowledge our oneness with earth energy.
We may notice that our experiences have a tremendous effect on our health. Science has shown us that through the placebo and nocebo effects, our focus can literally shift our body to states of wellness or illness.
From the WebMD Archives:
“People have been noticing this for quite some time. Whenever you look at any randomized control trials, it’s surprising how similar the side-effect profile for the placebo often mirrors the side-effect profile for the active [treatment]… It’s the power of the imagination. If you ask someone to imagine a visual scene in their minds, you can see on an MRI that their occipital lobes — the parts of their brains involved with a vision — are activated. If you tell people to imagine doing some physical activity, you’ll see the motor cortex showing activation. Just imagining something is happening is enough to activate those portions of the brain associated with that thought, or worry, or pain.”
~John Kelley, Ph.D., deputy director of Harvard Medical School’s Program in Placebo Studies & Therapeutic Encounter.
2. Mindset & Beliefs
Have you ever spent time with someone who always seemed to be in a bad mood? Some carry a victim mentality or are consistently complaining about yesterday or are worried about tomorrow. Our beliefs on a series of topics weave together to create our mindset. They range from religion to social constructs, politics, education, ethics, and more. What is the quality of beliefs that we carry with us? The attitudes we present to the world will project either our positive or negative thought focus. When our mindset is lighthearted, and we are expecting good things, we are using our power of focus to create a life we love. This is the quantum life-force energy of thought.
3. Lifestyle & Relationships
If our focus is on things we’re worried about, our lifestyle will reflect that in a variety of ways. We may find ourselves to be self-protective and reclusive. If our lifestyle includes things like exercise, walking the dogs, dancing, QiGong, Yoga, we may find that our bodies thrive with focused movement. An active appreciation of music, dance, gathering with friends and family, laughter & gratitude can provide an expansive lifestyle that helps us focus our lives on joy.
Relationships are the core of our life. They can be relationships with our self, partner, kids, friends, relatives, work colleagues, and the strangers we encounter. Elements of these relationships, including respect, love, trust, dependency, jealousy, etc. create thoughts that form the essence of our experience.
When we’re “going quantum,” allowing the smallest of thoughts to direct our lives in beautiful and amazing ways…we are open to the belief in the field of limitless possibilities.
Just the way sound creates visible waves as it travels through a droplet of water, our “belief waves” ripple through the quantum fabric of the universe to become our bodies and the healing, abundance, and peace-or-disease, lack, and suffering that we experience in life. And just the way we can tune a sound to change its patterns, we can tune our beliefs to preserve or destroy all that we cherish, including life itself.
