Ananda More: The Magic Pills
There is a beautiful blog on my website written by my good friend Dr. David Nortman that examines the depth of bias and institutional repercussions. https://magicpillsmovie.com/why-more-homeopathic-research-is-not-enough/
OMTimes: How can a homeopathic doctor and an allopathic one work together in a typical patient needing surgery?
Ananda More: In my time in Indian Homeopathic hospitals, I witnessed first-hand how conventional doctors and homeopathic doctors work alongside each other. The Homeopath can support the allopathic doctor by reducing the negative impact of invasive life-saving interventions and facilitate faster healing. Often homeopathy alone can provide emergency medicine results. Still, there are many times when conventional medicine, tools, and diagnostics mean the difference between life and death.
Homeopathy, in my perspective, is far superior to allopathic medicine. Especially when addressing chronic illness. Conventional medicine can manage chronic illness but not arrest its development and can produce many side effects, often worse than the disease they are managing.
OMTimes: Why do people tend to identify Homeopathy with the Anti-Vaxx movement?
Ananda More: I think that’s a generalization that many in the community have worked against. Without introjecting my personal opinion, which by the way, is illegal for me to do, and could lose me my practitioner license (a censorship problem in and of itself), some great homeopaths have been supporters of vaccines – like the great late Dr. Peter Fisher (who I was very blessed to have had the opportunity to interview for the Film). Of course, many others may have justified concerns about vaccines.
OMTimes: Why do people say that Homeopathy treats the patient, not the disease?
Ananda More: Homeopathy treats the symptoms of an individual present. Ten people with the same infection will experience different symptoms. One person may develop a fever and feel anxious, restless, and thirsty for small sips of water. In contrast, another person may want to do nothing but a lie, still feel a lot of pain, and want to be left alone. One person may develop a headache, the other a cough. All 10 people may need a different remedy. What homeopathy is addressing is how an individual is affected by a disease, rather than the disease itself.
Homeopaths take into account the mental and emotional state of an individual while sick and while healthy. What stressors or incidents underlined the susceptibility then? There is an excellent depth of investigation in homeopathic practice to prescribe the right remedy for the individual.
OMTimes: Why does Homeopathy use the minimum and diluted doses? Also, why does homeopathic medicine need to be agitated (activated)?
Ananda More: Hahnemann originally started working with poisons and the medicines because he understood how they presented symptomatically to match the patient’s symptoms. He didn’t want to poison his patients, so he started diluting substances. Throughout his experimentations, he realized that more dilute substances often had enhanced healing abilities. Today this is called hormesis: this is the phenomenon where the body responds favorably to low doses of poison while large amounts are toxic.
We don’t actually know how Hahnemann discovered potentization, the succession (agitation) of the solution used in the production of homeopathic remedies. However, this is the secret to how treatments work. Without this, they are useless at higher potencies or dilutions. The process of succussion creates very high temperatures in a solution for split seconds. It makes nano-bubbles and also produces nanoparticles. This may lead to the “energetic imprint” or EMF that results in the healing response. Succussion is what differentiates a homeopathic remedy from ordinary water.
OMTimes: Can you tell us a little about homeopathy’s efficiency as an auxiliary treatment of devastating diseases, such as AIDS?
Ananda More: With Magic Pills, I really wanted to expose the real potential of homeopathy. From the Banerji’s success with treating brain tumors in Kolkata to Jeremy and Camilla Sherr’s remarkable work in Tanzania working with HIV.
Jeremy and Camilla, and their organization, Homeopathy For Health in Africa (HHA), are working hand in hand with local hospitals to improve and extend antiretrovirals’ effectiveness and improve people’s quality of life with AIDS. The story becomes especially poignant once you learn about the AIDS widows phenomenon in Africa. Women are blamed for their husbands’ deaths and then excommunicated from their communities, left with nothing but their children. They are often too ill and lacking the energy to make ends meet on their own. These women make a large proportion of HHA’s patients. Using classical homeopathy, HHA has had incredible results, backed by blood work showing the significant elevation of CD4 cell counts. CD4 is a type of white blood cell that fights infection and formulates an integral part of the immune system. HIV destroys these cells creating an immune deficiency.
The film also tells the story of Prasanta and Pratip Banerji, a father and son team who are treating cancer with homeopathy in India. Their clinic is so popular that people come from all over the world, from presidents to the homeless. They line up by the thousands to be seen by one of the Banerji Doctors. They have success rates of 87% in their treatment of brain tumors such as glioblastomas. This means that the tumors either stop progressing or regress, sometimes completely.
There are many stories of large-scale use of homeopathy from around the world. My hope is that more people will feel safe sharing their experiences to give others the information to pursue holistic avenues to improved health.
