Speaking with Spirit – How to Dial the Spirit for Directions
By Agapi Stassinopoulos
Every day, we are all faced with choices that we have to make about our lives: health, finances, relationships, homes, work, kids, even what we’re having for dinner. So often, we are conflicted and don’t know what the right choice is. It leaves us in limbo. This is a great opportunity to remind yourself that you can reach for your lifeline and dial the spirit for support and clarity. There is nothing too small to bring to the light.
When I was living with my family in Santa Barbara, my sister and her family decided to move to Washington, DC. I knew it was time for me to leave Santa Barbara as well, but I wasn’t clear about my direction or what was next for me. I was dating a man who lived in New York, I had very little income, and I had interest from a publisher to write a book on the Greek goddesses. I kept being nagged to move to New York. I had lived there before, so I had friends there, and it was also where my spiritual community met to participate in different classes. There was plenty for me to do there, and I would be close to my family in Washington, but I still felt terrified. It was such a big change, so it felt like a big decision.
One night, before I went to sleep, I prayed and asked for guidance. I had a dream so vivid that I can still remember every detail. I was in a beautiful bedroom, and the man I was dating showed up and said to me, “My name is Baruch”—which isn’t his name but is a Hebrew word that means “blessings”—“and I’ve come to invite you to New York with me. You can come by boat, or you can come by plane, and you’ll be taken care of in the way you have been accustomed to!” I woke up in the morning, and it was clear as a bell: I was moving to New York! The spirit was directing me. I felt energized and excited in making the decision. I packed my things in Santa Barbara, and I moved to New York with a joyful heart, trusting that the way would be revealed to me.
Two months after I moved, I broke up with the man I was dating. I realized that he had served the purpose of bringing me to New York, where I discovered my confidence and strength and unleashed a newfound creative expression. I ended up living in New York for six years and became comfortable living on my own. I trusted that I was not alone; instead, I was guided, inspired, and supported by the light and the spirit. There were many difficult moments, many lonely times, and many times I had to search for my courage, strength, and resilience.
When I was writing my first book, I kept asking for help to break through my self-doubt and my fear; I kept opening up to new ways to tend to myself; I kept reaching in and reaching out to others for support.
I found so many new ways to spread my wings, and I realized that there was a field of opportunities available as I kept discovering my connection to God in a daily and practical way. And my God, six years later, when I left New York to return to California, I was a different woman. I had written a book, built a whole body of work on the Greek goddesses’ archetypes, and explored so many new territories of myself that, under the canopy of my family, I could not have discovered.
So often, when we are asked to embark on new ventures, we are terrified by the unknown. But a new calling can be a golden opportunity to step into the fullness of who we truly are. It’s like one of my favorite sayings: “Ships are safe in the harbor, but that’s not what ships are made for.” Our tendency, as human beings, is to stay safe and resist change, but in my experience, life pushes us toward change. Prayer can guide us out of the harbor to start sailing, even if we can’t predict the weather.
So many times in my life, I have been shown my direction and helped in very specific ways. I want to encourage you, in this prayer, to allow the higher wisdom of guidance to come through in every little detail of your life. There is always going to be unknown territory, and there are always going to be some insecurities, some trepidations, and the human part of you says, “What do I do now? How do I proceed with the best choice?” If you are willing to give that part of yourself over to your higher consciousness, it is remarkable how you will be shown how to proceed in very specific ways tailored to you. We must be willing to listen to ourselves, to stop the noise and go beyond the fear, to move toward an expanded sense of trust. There is a wise voice in us that will always counsel us if we will just make room for it to speak.
The Prayer
Dear Beloved,
I quiet myself, and I ask that I may move into clarity and receptivity so I may hear the voice of my wisdom in choosing the proper and right decision for the situation. (Please add to this prayer the specifics of your personal situation for which you would like support.)
I am presented with various options, and as I consider these options, please guide me to make the right decision that is the perfect choice for me and my family’s well-being. As I move forward, I ask to keep the highest good of all concerned in mind.
Allow me to see what is most beneficial for me and not be distracted by my wishful thinking or the red flags and the pitfalls in my way—to see clearly where there is a greater opportunity for more joy, more peace, and less stress!
As I move forward, I ask that I may not let my fear stop me but that I may be guided by the hand of the higher, protective power that is for me! Let that guidance now give me a sense of strength and security and a solid foundation to see the choice that will bring me greater productivity, greater alignment, and greater cooperation, always moving hand in hand with my higher self in this decision.
I want to trust myself and my intuition, move away from self-doubt and second-guessing and let my divine presence be part of this choice. May I move into my fullness and choose what is right for me!
I claim my patience, remembering that there is no urgency in the spirit. I thank you for helping me move my own limitations, my ego, and any parts of me that hold me back from knowing that I’m always guided. I always do know what is best for me and my life. I now give this decision over to the light within and I go free. So be it.
