Rising to the Challenge – The Conscious Growth in Dark Times

By Paul Lipton

When the world seems out of balance, fear lurking around every corner, and life seems frail and fragile with each passing moment, the heart and soul call out for guidance and yearn for conscious growth. Bombs explode, bullets fly, bodies fall, and lives are shattered, yet the human spirit seeks its quiet sanctuary.

There are cries at night for lost loved ones as dear friends are lost in the upheaval. There is a hopelessness that seizes our very being–a sense of foreboding and dread–with even turning on the television or opening the newspaper.

The Challenge of Conscious Growth in Dark Times

During these very dark times, we seek the light. We seek answers. We hope for guidance. We pray that a higher being is watching over us and will right the wrong. But can evil truly extinguish the light? Can the vampires that want to suck the very essence of us succeed? Can the monsters truly win this round in our history? Is there no end to the anarchy that seems to be the norm these days? Is hope dead? Is decency a bygone antiquated idea? Is the hero a mere movie idea? Is a happy ending only in fairy tales?

Can we rise to the challenge? Can we meet the enemy of our souls on the battlefield we face? In this split second, this fleeting time in history, are we up to the test that is our life?

The answer is that we must and can meet the challenge. There is no other option.

Evil will always exist, for it seems in some part of our DNA. But is there evil that lives separate and apart from the human condition? Sometimes, it feels that way. It feels like evil simply is, yet it is the exception to the whole! The whole is good. The total is decent. The whole is honorable.

In a time that calls for good, we must harness it. We must call on the better angels to appear and light the way. Of course, evil exists, but honor, nobility, courage, decency, and a code of moral conduct must be released. We cannot wait for someone else to ride in to save the day from the vampires. We must be the keepers of the moral compass.

Rising to the Challenge Bravely

So, each day, agree to speak the code of moral conduct. Act with courage. Be the brave, noble one. Since no one gets out of life alive, I agree that our finite time here will be one of purpose and meaning. So, decide what your legacy is! Is your story that of the vampire or the vampire slayer? Don’t be fearful any longer. Don’t hide from the challenge. Don’t run from the fire. Rather, stay the course and be the light to help others get through the valley of darkness.

Can a few truly make us run and hide? I think not.

So, here is the course to follow for conscious growth:

  1. Accept that life is finite.
  2. Accept that we can’t control others’ evil conduct.
  3. Accept that we will fail in many of our efforts.
  4. Accept that we must act without expectations of success.
  5. Agree that life is finite and a beautiful gift.
  6. Agree that we can’t control others’ evil conduct but can control our reaction and response to it.
  7. Agree that we will fail in many of our efforts, but we will succeed more than we fail, and we learn from our failures.
  8. Agree that we must act without expectations, but we still must act and live with courage and conviction.
  9. We must be the tangible embodiment of the intangible concept. We must literally become noble and not merely talk about it. We must become heroic and not merely read about it. We must become the honorable ones and not merely chatter about “where are the honorable ones.”

 Conscious Growth and Challenge

On this day and at this moment in time, rise up. Yes, put flowers down where others have fallen and pray for the lost ones, their family, and friends, but then, call upon the power that exists in the good to rise up and fight the fight for our moment in time right here and now.

You ask, what is the meaning of life in this time of conscious growth and challenge? It is how we respond now to this global event. It is putting aside minor differences and disagreements and realizing that we are the chosen ones to save this time for our children. We are the warriors of the soul. We are the heart soldiers. We are the saviors of our future. So what is the meaning of our life? How we act right now is the very essence of who we are. This is our legacy. This is our immortality. This is our purpose. We are the vampire slayers, and the angels are within us and calling us to act.
