Reclaim Your Powerful You! – Day 8
The Fundamentals of Intuitive Awareness

Grounding, centering, shielding and opening are basic disciplines when developing intuitive skills. Unfortunately, since most people aren’t aware of just how evolved their skills already are, they neglect to use these fundamental, supportive tools. As a result, unconsciously sensitive people will often feel drained or out of balance for “no apparent reason.”
By integrating the simple metaphysical techniques of grounding, centering, shielding and opening into a daily practice, you consciously remain aligned with your Power.
Grounding connects you to the earth and your intention to be here, allowing you to take a strong stand. Centering brings you into your own body and energy fields, enabling you to differentiate between what is yours and what is in the atmosphere around you. Shielding sets up a barrier so that others’ feelings, emotions, and thoughts do not invade your space. Opening helps you “read” the energies around you with greater ease and clarity and supports your connection to your Higher Power.
Exercise: Note: These exercises can be done either sitting or standing. They can be practiced anywhere, but if it is your first time experimenting with them, you may wish to find a quiet space where you can be undisturbed for at least 15 minutes. You can practice these techniques alone or with others.
In the order listed, try each of these four skills:
Grounding
To ground, start by breathing deeply, allowing your inhalations to fill your body and your exhalations to relax you. Let yourself connect to Earth. You may see yourself as a tree with roots going into Earth’s center, or you may imagine you have a tail or cord that anchors to her core. Use any image, feeling or sound that allows you to feel deeply connected. While grounding, you may seem to grow heavier, as you allow yourself to sink comfortably into Earth’s energy. Take a moment to appreciate your connection to your Earth. Next, feel the sun overhead, and allow the sun’s energy to pour over you in a protective wave of warmth. This completes your grounding exercise placing you between earth and sky, strong and “unmovable.”
