Mind/Body Weight Loss – Day 23

Mind/Body Weight Loss Day 23

 Week 4 Opening the Heart

Cultivating Self-Sustainability Weight loss is the act of becoming whole.  In order to find that wholeness and make it last, we need to be able to take a step back and see the big picture.  In this we need to understand what is important to us and how we can cultivate intimate connections with ourselves and other people.  Read Cultivating Self Sustainability for more information on this topic.

Remember the definition of stress?

When perceived resources do not meet perceived demands.  When looking at the cultivation of the sustainable self, we learn from other models of sustainability in the local economy or ecology.  How do we manage, develop and allocate our resources?

What are your resources?

 Personal                                             Community

– Your time & money                          – Your social network/support/family/friends

-Your skills & hobbies                        – Community professionals

Social Support

Having a community of people who support you is an important part of making enduring changes. They are an invaluable resource to us.  We all have those people in our lives who re-enforce our behavior, good and bad.  So as our hearts, bodies and minds yearn for healthier choices, it is important to surround ourselves with people who have the same mindset.  If you are trying to quit smoking, hanging out with all your old friends who smoke, will make that choice more difficult.  So, find people who share your interests.  Social support also has a protective effect against stress and depression.
