Let Go Of Perfectionism

We expect the world to be filled with perfectionism, and we can get lost in a list of expectations. The only point being, we are imperfect and ask a lot out of ourselves. We even may be rough and tough on ourselves for not living up to other people’s expectations. Were we meant to live up to someone else’s expectations of who we should be?

Whether expectations are placed on us by someone else or we choose to be tough on ourselves, such expectations have a tendency to produce worry and anxiety. ‘Am I good enough?’ ‘Will it will work out?’ ‘Am I wasting my time?’ We often go back and forth in our minds, drifting off into fear.

Worry has a way of attacking our state of mind like a wild virus, if we do not stop ourselves from living in extreme thoughts of failure or success. Whether it is a relationship, job, or finances, we get all bent out of shape the moment a little obstacle arises. We can go off the deep end and get angry because we do not want to fail and wish to succeed.

Peer pressure is always on us from one angle or another; someone is always watching. So, by our example, they learn whether to succeed or fail. Failure is really a place of negativity.

Negativity eats away at us, brings us down to a lower vibration of thinking. Are we really a failure, or is it just our fears that try to rob us of the joy of truly living in peace with ourselves?

Pressures come from family, friends, lovers, co-workers, and even strangers. At times, it does become overwhelming when people come at us from all sides, especially seeking perfectionism. Daily, we feel the noise from the outside. Resentments kick in when we feel we have given more than we have received.

We expect things to happen instantly. One thing we don’t seem to have much of, at times, is the patience to wait on someone else to change and grow. In waiting for others to catch up, we lose patience because we may be more educated, or we may be at a different emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical level. We forget we are not all having the same experience. None of our paths are exactly the same. We are unique individuals.

We get stuck in what we think should and shouldn’t happen in life. We believe things should be a certain way and become closed minded. We close off the world and linger in old resentments. Those old resentments have a tendency of building up if we are not willing to clear and unclutter our emotions, feelings, and mind on a daily basis. Anxiety and worry can only thrive if we hold on to the reigns and expect perfectionism in an imperfect world. We must come to accept that things don’t always happen the way we would like them to, and be in agreement with the idea that everything is the way it should be in the moment.

We have to learn to let go of the anxiety and worry. We also have to understand things will get better for us in life as long as we take a big deep breath and become wiser. Wiser, in the sense that by letting go of perfectionism, we will become perfect in the moment. By becoming our authentic, genuine self, with all our failures and shortcomings, we encompass all the things that make us talented and gifted.
