Coping in a Time of Economic Crisis
by The Psychic Twins, Terry and Linda Jamison
“Inside the Great Mystery that is, we don’t really own anything. What is this competition we feel then, before we go, one at a time, through the same gate?” ~ Rumi
At this contemplative time of the year, we are so grateful for all of our friends who have ignited the flame of love and gratitude within us. We would like to share this with you in the hopes that you may feel encouraged for the holidays.
Back in June of 2006 we were the first to predict the coming implosion of the housing bubble, which started the financial collapse in motion like a house of cards (on Hay House Radio, John Holland’s “Spirit Connections” show). In this climate of financial upheaval and uncertainty, many of us are feeling lost and fearful of what the future may hold. Indeed, there is a need for spiritual anchoring at times like this. What is happening is a kind of “karmic tearing-down process,” where we as humans are being forced to confront our faulty belief systems that are no longer working. It may be helpful to take a look at our attachments to material trappings or external possessions to make us feel worthy.
The Wall Street and housing crisis is revealing our culture’s unhealthy addiction to money, wealth, power, and material possessions. This economic crisis is a wake-up call, a harsh reminder that life’s circumstances are ephemeral, temporary. While it may be difficult or painful, we can choose to have a shift in perception – to see this crisis as an opportunity to review our beliefs and behaviors, and take responsibility for our choices. In a certain way, we are going through a powerful initiation process where we are being called to grow and expand– to begin anew, releasing fear and perceived limitations that are holding us back from becoming our fully conscious selves. These times are helping us to develop appreciation and deeper levels of compassion for ourselves, even with all our flaws.
We are finding that spiritual security is the only real security, and no one can take that from us. We can choose right now to focus on all the things that we are grateful for, all the things – family, health, children, dear friends, talents and abilities – that we do have. Now it is more important than ever to carve out time to meditate and quiet the mind, to call in the angels of peace. Let’s resist the impulse to allow ourselves to be consumed by fear. Instead, let’s choose to honor the experience and find a place of internal peace, which will ultimately bring us the confidence and wisdom to take the next step. Resolve to take a more careful assessment of your spending habits and accounts. Many of us, especially women, were taught to relinquish control of finances to others, such as husbands and financial managers. It is a good idea to keep a close eye on any investments that you may have. Now is not the time to make rash decisions or to blame others for the problem.
