An Interview with Allison Hayes – The Diva of the Rocks

Allison Hayes was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Now she resides in New York City with thousands of clients worldwide. Below she shares with us some interesting things about herself. The most impressive things about Allison is how she learned to read stones. Part of Allison’s training was to sit blindfolded in front of mud-filled buckets.  The buckets each had different stones in them.  In order to pass her tests, she had to be able to dip her hands into the muddy water and identify each stone just by its vibration.

OMTimes – How do you introduce yourself at parties?

Allison Hayes – The Rock Girl… it’s so funny that you ask because that is truly how I identify myself!  Years ago when I first started working with stones, my Reiki friends would call me Rock Girl.  Then when I moved into my neighborhood 10 years ago, I would receive boxes and boxes of stones from all over the world.  If I were not home, the mail carrier would leave them outside my house.  My neighbors started referring to me as “That Rock Girl – that crazy girl who keeps buying all of those rocks!”  I finally got the message while working with a particular stone vendor from overseas.  He could never remember my name, so he began addressing the boxes to The Rock Girl.  When the time came to name my business, I kept trying to come up with something clever, yet nothing seemed to feel right.  So I decided to keep it simple and just call myself what everyone else had been calling me for years – The Rock Girl.

OMTimes – I understand that many of your stone teachers were “old school”, actually making you climb into stone quarries and dig the rocks out of the earth. How has this impacted upon the way that you relate to stones?

Allison Hayes – Wow – I cannot imagine learning any other way… in fact; I thought that was the ONLY way!  You have to remember, I started doing this when I was in middle school. I went to a Friends School and they would take us on field trips, nature walks, etc., and many of the teachers were very connected to Mother Earth.  They would teach us to listen to the trees, streams, clouds, and stones.  When we would return to class, the teachers would instruct us to write papers and poems about what nature “told us”.

This was a great way of developing and validating our connecting with Mother Nature.  It sparked my interest in studying stones and I began collecting them, and wanting to learn all about them. So, it was only natural for me to seek out teachers who taught hands-on when it came to learning more about stones.  They taught me that the environment the stone came from and how it was formed truly affects its integrity and how it connects to the energy of a person.  I learned that each stone is unique and has its own story to tell.  Stones are made up of ions, molecules and atoms and, just like people, have their own vibrational frequencies.  They have an electromagnetic frequency (magnets are a type of stone called magnetite) that draws energy to them, and thus make them containers of wisdom as well as conductors of energy and light.  Long story short – they hold and convey information.

I was raised in a historical area where most of the buildings were made of stone, and I soon learned that when I touched them, they “told a story” of the history behind (or shall I say “within”) the stones and the buildings themselves.  All I would have to do was lay my hands on them, and I would have a sense of “knowing” of what occurred in that building or area in earlier times.  Sometimes I would hear words and phrases and see “flashes” of times gone by.  I then validated that information by researching the history of the building through the library (remember there were no computers back then!) or by talking to people who had lived there before.

OMTimes – I understand that you worked with stones for months on end, until you could separate out the energies of each stone just by touch and that you can dip your hands into a bucket of muddy water and identify each stone just by its vibration.  Tell us about that.

Allison Hayes – Well, it was not always a pleasant experience because I would bump into funky creatures at the bottom of the bucket!  Other than that, I found it fascinating, invigorating and fun.  Most of the stones that I worked with were taken directly from the Earth.  They were in their natural form, or as they are called in the Rock World, “rough” stones as opposed to polished or tumbled by man.  Although many looked alike at first glance because they were covered in dirt, or what is called “matrix”, once under water, their frequencies came alive.  Some were fast, while others were slow.  Some gentle, and others quite frenetic.  I could also “feel” the texture of the stones and was able to identify them that way as well.  Once I connected with a frequency though, I never forgot it.  Even in the tumbled or polished stones, the frequencies are still the same.  When stones are “processed” by man, the frequencies may be a bit subtler – yet I can still feel the pulse and know which stone it is.  In the advanced workshops that I teach today at The Rock Girl Sacred Stone School, I do not make students put their hands in muddy water, but I do have them place their hands in a paper bag filled with stones and ask them to identify them that way.

OMTimes – These are special talents that you possess, and I’m sure our listeners and readers are interested in knowing how the experiences that you have with stones relate to the interests you have in animal rescue.  Is there something about the vibration of stones that makes you more interested in the treatment of animals?

Allison Hayes – My connection to animals came first – it started when I was a small child growing up on a farm.  We lived in a very rural area and there were not many people, so the animals were my friends and my family.  I bonded immediately and would bring home every wounded or abandoned animal that came across my path.  My father was a doctor so he would fix them up, and if it were wildlife, we would release it back into its environment.  If it were a domestic animal in need of a home, my mom would let me keep it, as long as I promised to take care of it.  I remember getting up at 5 am to feed “everyone” before going to school.  I also recall staying up late in the barn at night making sure everyone was tucked in bed.  We had horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, rabbits, ducks, birds, turtles, fish, and of course, cats and dogs.  It was bonding with the animals and their “frequencies” that helped me become closer to Mother Nature and her “other children” – whom I knew as trees and stones.  They all had very gentle and comforting frequencies and I just loved being around them.  Truth be told, as I got older, I had a hard time adjusting to people because I was raised in the gentle embrace of Mother Nature.  I found the energy of humans to be on the harsher side of the spectrum.  After my father died when I was fifteen, I was thrust full force into the Human Jungle – but that is another story entirely – lol!
