A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words

As a medium, a picture or symbol often speaks a thousand words. Spirits have their own unique way of presenting images or symbols that tap into my own psychic database, which serves to validate the reading I’m giving. They know precisely what image to use that enables me to relay such accurate information. I’ve often said that I’m a very good “Mailman,” but my mediumship training over the years has taught me not to “read the mail,” but to simply deliver it. I originally heard that statement from my colleague John Edward, and I try as a medium to live by that rule.

In this edition of Soul Inspirations, I want to share a couple of true stories from past readings, as I hope it will be an inspiration for you.

This past March, I read for a married couple that had lost their teenage son. My strong link with Jamie provided his parents with some amazing information, which they totally understood, except for one thing. In my mind’s eye, I saw a “zipper” going up the back of someone’s head, from their neck to their skull. I know that might sound bizarre, but it’s truly what I saw! Receiving that image sometimes means to me that a person in the Spirit World may have passed from a brain tumor. The parents couldn’t figure it out at the time, but I knew what I was getting and just gave them the information. They told me that he’d not died from a tumor, so I felt somewhat perplexed.

The following day, I received a remarkable email from them. They told me that on their way home, they’d pieced it together. Jamie’s nickname was “Zip,” and his online screen name was “Zipperhead.” It was his own unique way of making me sure it was him during the reading, as if I didn’t know, but he wanted to send a total validation by showing me a zipper going up the back of a human head. I am so glad that I expressed exactly what I was seeing!

Another time earlier in my career I met a beautiful woman who’d lost her little girl Jennifer. As I connected with her daughter, she quickly showed me a beautiful bouquet of multi-colored balloons. I remember describing exactly what I was seeing and I knew that it had to have a special meaning. The Mom went on to tell me that every year on the anniversary of Jennifer’s passing, she and other friends and relatives would send up a bunch colored balloons into the sky. Each and every balloon was printed with her face on it and a personal note tied to it for a special delivery to Jennifer.

Whenever I see balloons during a reading, it’s Spirits way of telling me that they’ve lost a child, and they too had balloons released for their child or someone else special to them. That one picture Jennifer showed me still has a special meaning to me. What a beautiful gift!

Working with parents is always an honor for me. When I dedicated my life to becoming a practicing medium all those years ago, it was seeing how much parents were being comforted that kept me on the path of becoming who I am today, and to continue to give and live my life in service of helping others. If ever I doubted what I was doing, I only had to look at the faces of those parents leaving my consultation room to know I was doing the right thing!

My work still brings me into contact with many parents who have lost a child, and while I can’t bring their children back physically, I can try to show them that their children are still alive and well in the Spirit World, and what’s probably of most importance and comfort, is that they’re never truly alone.

John’s Lesson

As we grow up, we learn the basic rules of life, such as: how to live, how to love and how to acquire things. However, we don’t really learn what to do when we lose children. Sadly no one seems to want to talk about the death of a child, as it’s often a highly sensitive and emotional subject, and we fear it will make the grieving parents feel even more uncomfortable. Yet many parents tell me that they’d be happier to be able to talk about their son or daughter, to revisit happy memories, and to hear their child’s name once again.

So this week’s lesson is very simple and very short. If you know someone who has lost a child, please reach out to them. You don’t have to offer any specific advice, but just offer your ear and kindness, and let them know that you’re there for them whenever and in whatever way they need.

Maybe a phone call, knock on the door, or a letter or card is just what they needed!
