Make Your Own Natural Shaving Cream While Saving Money and Saving the Planet

Are you tired of all the shave cream bottles and packages you throw away, there are millions of packages that go into the landfills every day! It’s easy to make your own wonderful natural shaving cream.

If you are a woman who shaves her legs and under arms, or a man who shaves his face and or head you may go through a lot of shave cream. Plus making your own shave cream is much less expensive, and home made shave cream don’t contain all those nasty chemicals that commercial products do. Plus you get to choose what you use in your shave cream, and you can make it smell great.

How to Make Your Own Natural Shaving Cream

First start out with a heavy oil like natural sesame, olive oil, grape seed oil, apricot oil, palm oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, sunflower seed oil, or almond oil-use 1/2 cup.

Add 7 or 8 tablespoons of coconut butter, mix with the oil and melt in the microwave for the shortest time possible, make sure to cover in the microwave or use a double boiler instead of the microwave.

Now add 1/2 cup of aloe vera gel, 1/2 cup of liquid soap (natural kind that you can find at health food stores) 4 tablespoons of baking soda, add a little bit of vitamin E liquid to help it stay fresh, and then mix the hot mixture well. If the mixture starts to separate mix it again, now add any kind of essential oil that you love, perhaps you like cinnamon, lemon, thyme, clove, coconut, orange, rose, lavender, mint, ylang ylang, pine, patchouli, chamomile, or sandalwood, the sky is the limit when it comes to fragrances.

Pour the warm (Not Hot) mixture into a container with a tight fitting lid and you are ready to go.

If you want a thicker natural shaving cream, replace the coconut butter with beeswax or glycerine soap and make sure you heat the mixture in a double boiler. Some people even add a little red or white clay to the mixture to make it even thicker.

  • No! This is awful apricot, grape seed & sunflower among others listed are considered light oils, Why on earth would you want Baking soda? a clay would be better and this is not going to save you time or money you would be better off buying a natural shaving soap this looks like a one time use recipe. Since they will end up separating or going rancid. Coming from an experienced soap maker this is not worth the effort and cinnamon essential oil is not going to feel pleasant on your skin while shaving. While the author may be a master herbalist I don’t see skin care or soap maker listed.
