A Daily Look Within – Day 22
Fall is a time of harvest, often made easier with the aid of Water. Think of rice paddies or cranberry bogs, which are filled with Water to ease in cultivation and gathering. Without adequate rainfall during the year, we would not have the wonderful proliferation of colors that abound in the fall in so many parts of the world…the gorgeous red, gold, and brown hues that signify and exemplify that time of the year. Consider the warming drinks of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea that sustain us during the day or get us through a chilly night. All of these are made with Water, making them and other liquids such a part of every seasonal celebration.
Even winter, with so much of its cold temperatures, is made all the more tolerable, if not downright fun, by the smooth, heavy freezing-over of a pond or river, or the fall of a fresh, white blanket of snow to give us the beauty of a hushed winter walk or sled ride. The exercise of moving the snow out of our way so we can continue with our day is just one of the ways we can relate to Water in the midst of winter. Let’s not forget the thrill of waking as a child, hoping for a day off from school to go out and play with and in the freezing whiteness outdoors? Getting all bundled up to build a snow fort or throw some snowballs, maybe create a snowman, or lie down in it and move our arms and legs to make a snow angel…snowshoe, ski, or ice skate? Without Water’s wintry grace, we would have so much less to enjoy, and our winter lives would be so much more depressing without it.
