Anodea Judith – The Global Heart Awakens
Tragedy is when something terrible happens that didn’t really need to—when there is a loss that could have been avoided. I can’t think of a greater tragedy than to lose the precious and beautiful environment we’ve been given, and face millions of deaths due to heat, starvation, and water shortages—when it is completely avoidable.
How do you see we can avoid it?
We have the technology to solve our problem; we have the money if we change our priorities; we just don’t have the collective will. Lester Brown, head of Worldwatch Institute, says that we can address every problem we have today for a fraction of what we spent invading Iraq. We just need to implement these technologies rapidly, and we’re not doing that. And that failure is a result of our wounding—a place where we have become so disempowered by the power-over operating system, that we are passive victims riding in a machine that is going over a cliff and we don’t know how to steer, and there’s no way to get off.
What is the most potent way to address that?
We need architects of the future and we need them fast. And not just on the physical level, but social and spiritual architects as well. And we need to mobilize the media as the collective nervous system of the planet to be a realistic feedback system.
There used to be three basic classes: Priests, merchants, and warriors. Connecting to God, trading goods, and protecting your dominion were considered the most important activities in the age of Empire.
