Barbara Marx Hubbard: Visions of a Universal Humanity
That’s an interesting timing because that’s normally when women are going into menopause.
Right. And I’ve coined a word “regenopause” for after 50. When I was 50 that’s when I ran for Vice President; I was enormously motivated. I remember once I had an inner intuition. I was cleaning out my basement in Washington DC and an inner voice said, “Would you like to die?” And I said, “No”. And the voice said, “Would you like to rejuvenate or would you like to get cancer?” Cancer is the body’s panicked effort to grow without a plan. And rejuvenation or regeneration is taking that same tendency of growth and applying it to your own cellular life to say, “There’s more to be given here, there’s more to grow.” And so I very, very clearly began to say, “There’s more to grow here. There’s more to be expressed in me and in others.” And I can tell you that from 50, 60, 70, 80, that’s forty years, I still feel that I’m at the re-emergent threshold of my life, because I really am. And everyone really is.
Every moment for you since that time has been a regeneration or a rebirth.
Yes, it has. And before I had that planetary birth experience and found a vocation or calling to be a communicator, before that I was really depressed. I’ve never been depressed like that again. Now I will have periods of lostness and uncertainty and feelings that nothing that I do matters. I call them local self episodes, where the separated self will just hit you and say, “You’re not good enough.” And I recognize that as the separated ego, and I recognize that inside each of us is essence, essential self, true nature. We taught a course on the Shift Network called “Emergence: The Shift from Ego to Essence” which is a very important step for anybody because if you are identified with your separated self, even if you receive higher guidance or inner spiritual experience, if the person you identify with is the one that’s going to try and get out there and succeed and win, and loses contact with the inner guide and deep self, you’re going to be miserable.
