Barbara Marx Hubbard: Visions of a Universal Humanity
During the experience I got the words “Barbara, our story is the birth of a universal co-creative humanity. Go tell the story.” The message got imprinted on my cells that we are all members of one planetary body, that this body is struggling, that we are feeling the pain, and the empathy is growing among us, and so on.
If you think of the top-down structure of a silo, we have the different functions in similar top-down structures like health, education, economics… they are all structured in separation. In that moment of the planetary shift I felt all of those really being coordinated by the same force that brought atoms to atoms, molecules to molecules, and cells to cells. Nature formed whole systems at times of crisis; new wholes which are different than the sum of the parts. Like our bodies are trillions of cells – different than any one group of cells. Similarly, when we connect at that level of consciousness, empathy and creativity, we are a new species.
Is empathy the key?
Yes, empathy is key #1 because the human species has labored under the delusion of separation, or the illusion that we are separate from each other, from nature, and from Spirit. We have a nervous system that makes us feel separate. All the cultures have done it; it’s not just the Western world or the Eastern world. When you have power, there tends to be domination and control. We are now seeing that those structures of domination and control cannot respond to climate change, for example. It can’t even respond to the thermonuclear weapons that are still pointed at each other. When you see that impotence at the top of the existing structures or misuse of power at the top, what you begin to ask is where is the shift coming from? It’s all of us! It’s hundreds of millions of individuals in small groups, not even organizations, just people like you and me that are turned on the fact of loving one another, of loving our environment as part of our selves, of feeling Spirit within.
