Stepping Into Your Power

It’s true. We are such amazingly powerful beings that we don’t even realize it! To accept that we’re a divine extension of God, a soul with unbelievable power is one of the bravest leaps of faith any of us can take in this life. I want you to remember that this is a power that’s your birthright. Yet, I’m aware that many people turn away from this power and refuse to acknowledge it. While for others, it’s more a point of them not even being prepared to learn how to tap in to it. This in turn limits them from being all that they can be. There are any number of probable reasons for this state of mind, such as; fearing the judgments of others, being afraid of failure or success, or following someone’s opinion of what they believe is best for them. Equally, it can be just laziness that holds them prisoner from achieving spiritual growth.

There doesn’t always have to be a reason, it could be that you simply want to play it safe and decide to stay right where you are. One of my favorite quotes from T.S. Eliot speaks volumes: “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”

You can actually see, feel, and experience this power when it’s infusing your soul. It often builds when you start using your talents, gifts, and abilities to affect change in your life. Not so long ago, I remember watching a celebrity on television talking about a charity that he clearly felt deeply about and was generous in his sponsorship. As he was talking, you could see his soul in its true form, almost like a luminous being of light. He was beaming from the inside out. When I see this energetic power manifesting throughout ones being, I refer to it as soul shine. When I talk of power, I’m referring to the personal power that’s within us all. You can call it a spiritual power, an energy, or personal magnetism. Whatever you decide to call it, it’s yours to acknowledge, honor and use. We all have this power but sadly for so many, they either choose not to or are too afraid to use it. If you’re one of these people, then I hope this newsletter is resonating with you right now!

While I was studying to become a professional medium in England, I did all the research, read all the books I could get my hands on, meditated, sat in a spiritual development circle every week for two years, attended workshops, schools, and even studied with other professional mediums. With all this training, friends, teachers and fellow mediums said I was ready to do the work that my soul was meant to do. It was as though it was my soul’s destiny. Of course, I kept convincing myself that somehow I wasn’t ready. In a way, I felt like an actor who constantly takes acting classes, yet never gets up on the stage. I knew for a fact that I was never going to move forward unless I worked on letting go of the past, all the times of being put down, of never believing in myself, and not trusting that it would all work out. It was time, I had to work on my self-esteem so I could finally honor and step into my power.

A big part of stepping into your power is the whole process of loving and accepting yourself. By accepting yourself, you’re actually embracing and appreciating the whole of you. Just like my own past, many people feel they have to be different, or improve themselves before they can begin living in their power. Sometimes, it’s as simple as showing up and saying that you’re ready to do the work. It doesn’t matter where you are in your life – come as you are! We’re all the same. Bring all your baggage. Come with your faults, your past, emotions, and all the rest of the drama. If you’re willing to do the work and make the commitment to improving yourself, to grow as a soul, then you’ve just taken the most important action – your first step.

Exercise: Stepping Into Your Power – Honoring Your Self

Action equals power. Taking just one simple step toward discovering the limitless potential of your soul is the beginning of the new you – being all that you can be. I took the vital action when I moved to England to study the mechanics of Mediumship to see where my soul was leading me. Had I not been decisive to take such a bold step, then who knows what I’d be doing today or where I would be? I hope this exercise will help you take the crucial first steps in accepting and appreciating the whole of you.

** Step One **

Close your eyes and breathe deeply and slowly. I want you to think back to a time that you did a good deed for someone. Visualize that scene playing out in your mind. Really see it. If you’re having a hard time visualizing the scene, then stay with the memory for a few moments longer. Once you’ve connected with the memory, feel the emotions that are attached to the memory of you doing that good deed. Remember how you felt about yourself at the time and how others felt after you did the good deed for them. Notice how this feeling makes you feel inside. Notice how your soul feels illuminated. Stay with this feeling for a while. Let it sink into your consciousness as you accept and know that you’re a kind, loving, and compassionate soul.

** Step Two **

Now in your mind, I want you to take this same feeling and bring it to any area in your present life that you feel needs attention. Is there a certain direction or action you want to take in your life? Do you want to work on your spirituality? Does your soul need attention? Is there an issue in a relationship you want to address? Is there a health issue you want to focus on? Take one issue at a time. Ask your soul how you can improve the area of your life that you’re focusing on. What action do you need to take? You may get an immediate response or no response is forthcoming. Trust that your answer will come. It may not show up the way you want or expect it to show up. Synchronicity plays a big part when you begin to live your life from a soul level, so watch for those all-important signs and incidences that just appear out of the blue. Equally, you may want to work on a certain area of your life, but your soul has other plans and may bring up a totally different area than you were thinking of. In fact, you don’t always get what you want, but what you need.

** Step Three **

Stay with that same energy of the good deed. See that certain area in your life that you’ve just selected, and now I want you to feel it improving bit by bit, and finally visualize it fully resolved, positive, and healthy. Believe that you’re special and that you’re truly unique and meant to be happy. In many of my books, I’ve explained about the effects of positive affirmations, especially when infused with emotion. I want you to say following affirmations three times every day for a whole week. You may even want to post them in a place where you can easily see them.

Here they are:

“I am soul.”

“I have unlimited potential.”

“I am now stepping into my power and I appreciate all of me.”

“The Divine Source flows in me, through me, and from me.”

“I can achieve anything I want.”

“I now know myself as I really am.”

“I own my power.” “I am power.”

** Step Four **

Finish this exercise by letting your positive emotion soak into your whole being and then around your aura. Finally, try to extend it out as far as you can. Take this feeling into every day, every week, and every part of your life. When you step into your own power, you’re also stepping into your truth, that you’re a Divine Soul – a soul that wants you to be all that you can be, and has great power to affect the world in ways you may never have thought possible.
