Mindful Diet and Mindful Action
By Brett Bevell
A master of energy healing, Brett Bevell is a Reiki Master who advocates listening to the Divine presence that exists in all forms of energy healing. Through his own journey for self-healing, Brett has developed some of the most innovative Reiki techniques since Reiki’s founder Mikao Usui. Brett also discovered other forms of energy healing, most notably, Light of the Eternal One, an extremely powerful energy healing practice inspired by the ancient Essenes that anyone can learn. Light of the Eternal One is the subject of Brett’s newest book Energy Healing for Everyone: A Path to Wholeness and Awakening, which suggests a 40-day cycle for learning the technique of working with the energy.
What you put into your body, and what you put into the world through your actions, invariably will have an impact on your spiritual journey. And though it is not required that you accompany the forty-day cycle when you begin working the Light of the Eternal One energy healing practice, with a fast, it is recommended that you be mindful of what you choose to put into your body during this time, since you are going through profound changes in your energy system. Similarly, how you act in the world should also be given special care during this forty-day period.
Each person knows what feels right to them, so there is no exclusionary rule about what to eat, or what to do. All that is requested is that you should be especially mindful with respect to both of these areas of your life during the initial forty days of receiving the basic treatment. I believe that inside of each of us is an intuitive barometer that tells us when we have gone into excess. This is a time to listen to that barometer. If you feel that it is in your best interest to refrain from eating certain foods or engaging in sexual activity during this time, then listen to that feeling. As that may be what is right for you, and not necessarily what is right for somebody else. Some may feel the need to completely give up alcohol at this time, and for others it may still be okay to have an occasional glass of wine. For others, the care may be in not consuming sugar, caffeine, or other substances that chemically influence consciousness. Again, there is no hard-and-fast rule, since each of us is different and has our own knowledge of what works and does not work for our own energy system. Being mindful does not mean starving yourself, making yourself miserable, or engaging in any self-punishing activity. It only means to listen at a very deep level to whether or not what you put into your own body and what you put into the world through your actions is in the highest good.
During this forty-day period simply listen to yourself at a very deep level, and trust that you know what is best. Part of the wonder of a true spiritual journey is in reclaiming the power of choice, and knowing that you as an individual are guided in that choice by being forever connected with the inexhaustible presence of the Divine. Listen with love, and trust that you more than anyone else know the best choices you can make for yourself during this sacred time.
