What Letting Go Really Means
What Does Letting Go Really Mean For Us?
by Chessie Roberts
Letting go is one of the most important aspects of our spiritual growth. The feeling or thought that this person is mine or this thing is mine as well as I must hold on as tight as I can will inhibit our growth. If we keep hanging on to what we consciously know that we need to let go of, these thoughts will become an anchor and restrict our spiritual growth.
If you have children or close family members, this concept of mine is probably one you truly can recognize and understand. The feeling of being connected to family, friends and/or community is very comforting and healthy to a certain degree. Becoming close to others is a lesson we all have to grow into as well as out of. These experiences are where we learn to care for others and to step out of our selfish phase of survival, which is associated with the energy center of the first chakra, also known as the root or base chakra. Ultimately, our growth must not stop here.
As we move into the higher level of the heart or fourth chakra, we learn to look outward and beyond our immediate sphere of influence to the larger, more universal picture. This is where the unconditional love begins to grow away from just what we feel is ours as we move into caring and protection to encompass the farther reaches of the environment, people in other countries, global issues and the list goes on.
Here is the challenging part. Before, we learned to care about others, including parents, spouse, children and grandchildren. As we raise our spiritual awareness, the realization that nothing and no one belongs to us or to anyone else should come into the picture. We are all created from the same source, which means that everyone and everything is us, but it does not belong to us. This is a fine line when we begin to look at it, but as we continue to consider the idea and get our minds around it, we see that the significance is huge.
We are EVERYONE and EVERYTHING, but we do not own them/it, nor do they own us. A parent might say “This is my child. She will always be my child. I have to worry about her. It is my job.” Actually, in the bigger picture, the child chose this parent to nurture until the child could stand in her own power. Then, the parent’s job is to let go and allow the child to be what the soul has come here to be. The prideful statement that the parent needs to worry about the child is not helpful to the child or the parent. This is true for any family member we feel inclined to worry about.
The energy of worry comes from fear. Fear is a very low frequency vibration and will pull down both the worrier and the target of that worry. If we truly want the person of our affection to grow and be well, then that is the energy we should be sending them. Love and fear can NOT live in the same place. If we send love to the thing(s) we are fearful of, in short order, the fear has dwindled out of existence and love has conquered yet another fear. Fear is often referred to as False-Expectations-Appearing-Real and, if we can embrace this idea, the fear leaves us even faster and our letting go becomes something even more powerful than before.
In letting go of the lower frequency perspective of worry associated with caring, we realize that we become more connected to the person, thing and place than we ever were before. As our new perspective of events and people in our lives grows, and we become more comfortable with our higher perch, we realize that ownership is not the important thing. Becoming one with all is what we are striving for. At the point of letting go, we actually become one with everything. We vibrate at a much higher frequency and that draws in those higher, lighter, brighter and more enlightened energies that we are striving for as we awaken to our reconnection to spirit.
