Paulo Coelho: The Pilgrim
OMTimes: The literary collection from Mr. Coelho is very impressive. Is there any one of his works you would considered to be the most influential in the making of this film?
Daniel Augusto: The film shows why he wrote The Alchemist and The Pilgrimage. So these books are very important. But we also have used books that had vital biographical elements in the genesis of the story, like the book “Veronika Decides to Die.”
OMTimes: What was Mr. Coelho overall reaction to the film? How involved was he in the making of it?
Daniel Augusto: He was not involved in the production. He only gave interviews to the screenwriter. These interviews were the basis of the screenplay. When he saw the movie he had strong emotions and cried.
The International Rights of the Book “The Pilgrimage” were acquired by Warner Brothers, which is also developing the screenplay for the 11 minutes with Hollywood Gang Production. The other book,”Verônika decides to die” has been developed by pela Muse Productions (VS and finally Monte Cinco is being in production by Capistrano Productions.
