Living Your True Purpose

true-purpose_OMTimes

We’ve all at one time or another asked ourselves those deep and profound questions, such as: “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” or even the million-dollar question: “Where am I going and how on earth do I get there?” No sooner have you asked one of those, and the next one pops into the consciousness: “There’s got to be more to life than this!” Does this sound all too familiar?

For the longest time since I got my dog, Koda, I’ve grown increasingly interested in all animals, but especially dogs! While preparing for Koda’s arrival, I’d read numerous books on animals and watched lots of DVD’s. I’ve since worked closely with the local animal shelters in my neighborhood to raise money. I’ve also participated in classes and workshops on how to care for dogs and other animals. It may sound like overkill to some to get so deeply immersed, but my soul has been constantly prompting me to do this work as a balance to the work that I do as a medium.

Recently, I took it up a notch and spent a day as a volunteer at a veterinary clinic, where I got to observe the veterinarians working on many animals. I sat in with the vet assistant talking to clients about different issues, and of course helped care for the animals that were treated that day. It was a magical day, and I learned so much from some really wonderful people. I plan to volunteer there every chance I can. I’m not sure where this will lead, but I truly feel as though I’m being guided to do this work, and more importantly, I’m aware that I’m living my soul purpose.

I know I’ve often written about soul purpose, but for my new friends to my articles, let me clarify what I mean by soul purpose. We all have important work to do while we’re here on this earth, and go about our daily lives in physical form to fulfill our souls’ purpose. Sometimes, people can get confused if they think that their career, goals, or tasks are their soul purpose.

Your soul purpose is not about becoming the president of a company, winning awards, or saving the world. It’s more about affecting all living creatures and the world in a positive way, to be all that we can be, and to live our lives in alignment with our highest good. We should acknowledge, affect, and help each other as much as we can with our unique gifts, talents, and abilities.

My soul purpose is not so much about becoming a well-known psychic medium, author, or teacher (abilities and talents that were provided for me to use), but to influence and have a positive and lasting effect on others. I believe that this is my gift to give, and my purpose is to perfect myself as a soul in being all that I can be with my time here.

As a soul, you have chosen this time to learn specific lessons, and perform certain tasks. Your particular talents and abilities are meant to help you to be happy, to enjoy life, to achieve your true potential as a spiritual being, and to be all you can be: a beautiful extension of God or the Divine Source.

John’s Lesson

Try to find or discover what your talents, gifts, or abilities are, but more importantly how you can use them to enhance your life as well as helping other people. If you are creative, is there an art class you could attend? Is there a charity you feel you’ve always wanted to help? Is there a certain talent you have? It could be your organizational skills, your designer eye, or even the way you console others.

Ask yourself how your abilities can help another. Even your loving smile could help someone who could really use a boost of encouragement this week. Whatever you do – it can only help your purpose of being all that you can be!

There is a purpose for you, and as much as you may try to ignore its’ calling, you’re going to be constantly drawn back to the fact that you yearn for more out of life, and the need to understand who you really are. There’s no better way to tap in to and experience your soul, to heal yourself, and to have a stronger connection with God, than by living your soul’s purpose. It’s when you tap in at this level, that you’ll cultivate a better sense of self.

When you’re not living your true soul purpose, you may suffer from feelings of lack of self-esteem, stagnation (the feeling of not moving forwards), disinterest and boredom, or you may suffer from chronic fatigue. People who don’t embrace their life purpose will often take jobs for the safety and security of a regular paycheck. I’m not saying this is wrong, as I totally understand that we’re spiritual beings living in a physical material world. Nevertheless, when you begin living your soul purpose of being all that you can be – you start living your life to its full potential. This is when the power of spirit flows through you naturally, without obstruction, and you become energized and excited about life.
