Is Someone Draining You?

It’s that time of the year, when we wake up with renewed energy, now that summer is at the door. If you’re like me, you may be thinking about sprucing up your home, cleaning out those closets piled high with stuff you’ll probably never wear again, or deciding on what needs re-planting in the garden. It’s often a time for many of us when we feel a surge of energy to set new goals for the rest of the year. Many people will meet these goals while others will procrastinate and go into a perpetual cycle of thinking what they need to or want to do … ending up not taking any positive action.

This article is an important reminder that all thoughts are just energy – whether they’re big or small, and can, therefore, affect you in some different ways. To live a completely soul-filled energetic life, to give it all that you have to offer, and to be all that you can be – you must firstly have all of your ‘soul power’ intact. This week, try asking yourself these questions:

Have you ever felt tired and drained but you couldn’t figure out why?

Have you considered that someone or something might be draining your energy?

I’ve written about this before in previous articles, but I feel it’s the perfect time to repeat this life lesson for all the new readers of Soul Inspirations and a reminder for my regular friends. Even if you’ve heard it once, it’s often not what you say, but the number of times you say it. So, let’s talk about energy cords and how to become more aware of them, how to keep them healthy and strong, and the importance they play in keeping our energy levels balanced.

Don’t forget, we’re all made up of energy. As energetic beings, we have what’s known as energy cords, which we constantly emanate, whether it’s consciously or unconsciously. When you focus and direct your thoughts and energy to a particular person, place, object, situation, or even an uncompleted project, you’ll establish an energetic cord with that thought. As you focus your energy on it, you’ll notice how the cord becomes bigger and stronger.

What’s really happening is that your energy cord attaches itself to the object of your attention, and then your precious resource starts to seep away from where you need it most–your own soul. It’s a bit like leaving a flashlight on, and watching the battery seep away until the light eventually fades away! I’m sure that you’ve heard the expression “giving your power away?” Well, that’s exactly what happens. Not only are you giving your power away, and in doing so, creating a soul leakage, but you also become energetically involved once this energy connection is established.

I’m not advocating that you should never become attached or that you should disconnect yourself from the people around you, or life itself. I’m referring to anything that’s dramatically taking your power away and draining you. Of course, you can have healthy attachments with people, places, and situations, ones that feed your soul and supply you with energy.

John’s Lesson

Be aware of this drained feeling next time, and ask yourself:

“Is there anyone or anything that’s draining my power and sapping my energy?”

“Are there specific cords I need to disconnect in my life right now?”

Make a list of whatever or whoever is draining you, irritating you, upsetting you, or even issues you may be unclear about. These could be in any area of your life, be it: personal, work, relationships, or home, etc.

Break down the list into these broad categories and go through them one by one. Making this list is an important step in itself. You’ll notice where your energy is going, and make more informed decisions if you choose to cut the cord and deal with it. It’s amazing when you start cutting, as you’ll start to get your energy back. So, now you can start the process of healing all of you.

Here are a few examples of potential draining energy cords:

~ Unhealthy diet and lack of exercise

It’s time to get your energy moving in the right direction and take a long hard look at your life. The next time you interact with different people in your life, stop and check whether they’re giving you energy or are they taking it away? Is there an even exchange? There should be a balance of giving and receiving energy from each other, so you keep your soul power intact.

Of course, I want you to make sure that if you’re feeling drained all the time that you see a medical doctor for a check-up. After all, you’re a physical being as well as a spiritual being.

I also encourage you to become more consciously aware of when and where you give away your power; the power that infuses your soul; power that’s meant for you. Honor it.
