Award-winning actress Catherine Frot (“Marguerite”) leads the cast of the French comedy La Fine Fleur or The Rose Maker, directed by Pierre Pinaud. She plays Eve, formerly a famous rose grower who is now on the brink of bankruptcy.

This light comedy presents the actress as a small florist who fights against large corporations wanting to end her business. Eve Vernet was the greatest breeder of roses. Today, it is on the brink of bankruptcy, about to be bought by a powerful competitor. Véra, her faithful secretary, thinks she has found a solution by hiring three inmates who are trying to reintegrate into society but have no knowledge of gardening. While almost everything separates them, they embark on a unique adventure together to save the small farm.
Eve faces serious difficulties and is about to be bought by a competitor. Still, with the best intentions, her secretary Véra (Olivia Côte) hires three people to work in the garden with them. Still, the trio proves to be devoid of any gardening ability. Still, a plan emerges that could change the company’s destiny.
Pinaud says that since he was little, he has been passionate about the art of gardening, and, with his brother, he imagined the ideal garden. He defines THE ROSE MAKER as a story of David versus Goliath. “It’s about a stubborn woman fighting alone against big corporations and the market laws, rejecting modern techniques that diminish the quality of the roses produced.” He also says that one of the challenges is the way to film the roses because they are associated with something conventional and static as much as they refer to beauty. “To avoid this trap, the film is always in motion with small incidents. I figured Eve’s obsession with beauty is like her quest for the Holy Grail, which could also bring the film some suspense.”
Frot confesses that the character’s personality and dramatic arc were what drew her to the film. “I was very touched by the social dimension and humanity in Entre Rosas. Then I also realized the importance of flowers in this story. They bring charm, and they were essential.”
“For an actress, Eve is an irresistible character. It is very complex and has many layers. On the surface, she is solid, but inside she carries a lot of scars that she thinks are invisible,” he continues.
The actress also confesses that THE ROSE MAKER is a work that particularly touched her. “It’s a very beautiful film, refined, and very well written and constructed. It exposes the difficulties of a small family business facing large corporations. It shows the struggle of a delicate woman who tries to live without giving up her moral values.”
The film’s artistic team includes Guillaume Deffontaines (“The Little Quinquin”) as director of photography; Philippe Chiffre and Manon Coaquette, art direction; and Mathieu Lamboley, who signs the soundtrack.
