Reclaiming the Permission of Your Soul

Reclaiming the Permission of Your Soul

Reclaiming the Permission of Your Soul is not about earning approval from anyone else, but about remembering the ancient, inherent authority that has always lived quietly within you.

From childhood onward, we learn to seek permission from those around us: parents, teachers, employers, partners, institutions, and society itself. Over time, that hierarchy of permission can become so familiar that we may stop noticing what has grown quiet beneath it. Yet the Soul’s permission was never dependent upon external approval. It is inherent. By simply considering that possibility, we may begin to recognize an ancient knowing within us and create space for a different relationship with our own inner authority.

Reclaiming the Permission of Your Soul: Remembering Your Inner Authority

By Anael Ivon

We learn about permission very early in life.

Before crossing the street, leaving the dinner table, visiting a friend, or doing something unfamiliar, we ask a parent. Then we enter school, where permission comes from teachers. We raise our hands before speaking and we ask to leave the room. We learn what is acceptable, expected, rewarded, and discouraged.

As we grow older, the people and circumstances change, but the pattern often remains. Permission may come from an employer, a partner, a professional, an institution, a social expectation, or even the imagined opinions of people around us. Without realizing it, we can build an entire hierarchy of permission outside ourselves.

There are practical reasons for many of these structures. The problem is not permission itself. The deeper question is what happens when seeking external permission becomes so familiar that we no longer recognize another form of permission within us.

The constant search for permission from somewhere else can become loud enough to quiet, even choke, the permission of the Soul.

The Permission That Was Always There

The Soul does not compete for our attention. It does not stand over us demanding to be heard. Its presence can be more like something living in nature, quietly existing without needing to announce itself. A tree does not ask whether it has permission to reach toward the light. A blade of grass does not wait for approval before emerging through the earth.

There is something within us that is equally inherent.

The Soul’s permission isn’t granted. It is inherent and allowed.

That distinction changes the question. Instead of asking, “Who will give us permission?”, we can begin to wonder, “What if the permission has always been here?”

We do not have to immediately believe the answer. We do not have to prove anything, change anything, or make a decision. Something changes the moment we even slightly consider it.

When Ancient Knowing Recognizes Itself

Sometimes that consideration produces a subtle recognition. There may be no dramatic revelation. Instead, something inside quietly responds:

I know this.

This is what we might recognize as the Soul’s Déjà Vu, an ancient knowing that does not feel newly learned because, in some way, it feels remembered.

Ancient knowing is not something we have to travel backward to find. It is not hidden in another book, another teaching, or another person who possesses the answer for us. It points toward something more eternal, something that has always existed within our deeper awareness.

The first movement toward allowing it is simply becoming aware that it exists.

And that awareness creates an opening.

Allowing the Possibility Within

There is no need to force that opening wider. We can simply allow the possibility to sit within us for a moment.

As it does, we can notice the body. The shoulders may relax. The chest can gently open. The belly can soften and expand with the breath. Nothing needs to happen, and there is nothing to accomplish. We are simply making room for the possibility that there is a form of permission within us that never depended upon anyone else’s approval.

And when we stop demanding that the Soul prove itself before we listen, surrender can begin almost imperceptibly.

The door opens.

Not because permission was finally given, but because we became willing to recognize the permission that was already there.
