Mindfulness: Discoveries To Be Found

Spirituality has, at its core, the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness is a word that might be defined as something unique to each of us, yet there is common awareness and discoveries to be found. Immersing our self in mindfulness by getting in touch with our inner feelings before we attempt to categorize them may serve to help us be more accurate and peaceful in life.

Just as an archer must look at the target before shooting an arrow, so must we all look with that same precision.  Our imperfections being what they are, we are never guaranteed a bulls-eye.  Not to mention what it might take to look past the things that cloud our vision–very much like the clouds that exist in our physical atmosphere.  However, looking at whatever stands in front of us and taking into consideration other factors, does help us to get closer to that middle point of understanding.

Why is the middle so important along with the balance of different factors? The answers to these questions come from within, of course, so we must look there.  Before we take our first step to seek an answer or try for a targeted goal–before we try to balance any other factors–the first and most necessary act is to “look.”

The process of looking is, by itself, an exercise in communication.  It is a two-way street; quite like any other circle or cycle, where information is exchanged and utilized.  Many of us are always looking, sometimes never seeing, the things that are “beyond” our optical vision.  We have trouble enough seeing physically, never mind attempting to visualize what we cannot see!  We might say that we have a problem or miscommunication in the way our [internal] vision works; it is a processing disorder we can therapeutically work on improving with thanks to mindfulness techniques.

Becoming more involved or more in-tune as we look within can bring us to a different level of awareness.  Some may call it a ‘new frontier,’ an altered state, or dimension.  As the great discoverers of old might recognize, one’s internal vision is a front to be encountered or a ‘holy land’ to be explored–and we do not have to travel physically to reach it.

It may not matter what we call “it” once we realize that “it” or “there” is not “here.”  It may not be a physical place, this internal holy land of discovery, but it is one where we can realize there “are” many layers to what lies inside–many levels of vibration and internal awareness with which to become familiar. (“Hello, darkness, my old friend…”)*  It is seen as a sacred journey, to those who choose to label their path with those words.  To see, feel, and recognize something that is not there is a major undertaking in communication!

To look above and see the vastness of space, gives yet another perspective.  Being up there in the great beyond, removed from the proximity of this and other physical worlds we think we know, might leave us feeling alone–but are we? We are never as far apart as we think we are; yet we are as close and connected as our heart feels.

It is not an easy journey, this looking within.  The risk of miscommunication and ignorance is a very real problem for many of us to overcome.  As a result, we may be unknowingly fearful.  This can throw off any attempt we might make to explore and make those inner discoveries of self and consciousness; in essence, sinking our ship before it has a chance to leave the dock.

Some may not feel as secure about communicating with those unseen areas of our spiritual nature that exist.  As a result, they may question not only their ability to see/communicate, but that these spiritual areas exist at all.  Might people truly lack vision?  Could there be a lot of us who are unable to reach spiritual understanding?  What might it take for us to overcome the barrier(s)?  What sort of exercises could we do to aid us in discovering?

Let us look–oh!  We are back to where we began.  What do you know?  We can choose to allow this process to cycle and become more involved, or we can choose to remain stuck and out-of-touch.  Unlike our external vision where we might employ the use of corrective lenses to see clearly, our internal vision does not require the use of physical means to achieve improved accuracy.

We can choose to overcome (or look beyond) our inability to see; we need not let it continue to frustrate us and add to our dis-ease.  Somewhere along the way, as we walk our path and look, the voyage and benefits of self-discovery and interaction with consciousness takes place. Without many of the things we might call ‘physical ease,’ balance can be discovered and achieved, internally and practically, by itself.

All it takes is our willingness to let go and flow with the way.  Where might we have heard these words before?  May we open and use our inner eye, to enjoy improved communication and peace.
