The Path to True Happiness Awaits!

By Dana Jacoviello

We go through periods of happiness. We go through period of sadness and depression. We go through periods of anger. Does this mean we are not happy because we are not happy ALL the time? Happiness begins with you and only you. Nobody can create it for you or do it for you. There is no special secret to true happiness. Being around happy people is not the answer either. Sure it is good to surround ourselves with positivity and happiness, but that still doesn’t quite give us what we need. We need to create our own true happiness before we can be happy with our lives, our careers, and our relationships. Life will continue to be a battle within in the mind until that happens in our hearts.

We have incredibly happy moments throughout our lives, but somewhere deep inside many of us are still searching for why we don’t feel that on a daily basis. Why can some people find happiness even in tragic moments? On the surface everything seems so simple for them during the chaos when should be furious and a falling apart, so we ask ourselves why are we always a mess. The answer is simple…they found their inner peace. They have made amends what whatever was ailing them. There was something deep inside of them creating a barrier to that path of true happiness. We sometimes don’t see it at first, but if you spend some quality time alone with yourself, whether it is meditating or sitting in the dark, I am quite sure you will find the answers you seek. We are all always on the go and rushing around making no time for ourselves or the people in our lives. The constant state of stress and frustration is building up a storm.

Go through whatever it is you need to go through and leave it in the past. True happiness doesn’t mean there are no unhappy moments, it just means we have dealt with it and continued on our journey. Some of us are unhappy with the way we look, the jobs we have, our friends, our families, and so on and so forth, but don’t make that your life. Get up and change it. There is no change if you do nothing. Fight for what it is you want in life. So often we sit and say I wish or I want. It doesn’t have to be a wish or a dream if you go out and get it. You only fail when you don’t put forth the effort. Find a way to count the blessings. Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have food on the table? Do you have clothes on your back? Do you have amazing people in your life who love you and accept you no matter what? Do you have a job? If the answer is yes, than that is half the battle. There are plenty of individuals with smiles on their faces and who have reached true happiness that have little, if any of those things. They choose to live life for what it is because they trust and have faith all will work out. They might have their moments, but we all do. They see passed what they don’t have and see what they do have.

It is not always how much we have but rather the quality of what we have in our lives that makes us happy. How often do we see someone who is struggling with whatever cards they have been dealt in life and we wonder why they seem as if they have the world? They have found the secret path to true happiness. They have found a way to see the good in life and trust in their faith or they fake till they make it, which is sufficient until they make it through the dark. They rely on knowing that life is not promised and it is not built on everything always going their way. They believe. It is simple as that. They just believe. That light in our lives never truly goes out unless we let that candle go out. We have a light inside of us and it shines so bright when we are ready to crawl out from the hole we have dug in that moment we chose to fall. As long as we get back up, falling is normal. During that time is when we usually answer our own questions and our eyes open wide. Soon after, we are shouting from that mountain top as if we have just discovered a new journey to embark on.

When people bring you down or tell you that you are not good enough, you tell yourself that you are. When you apply for a job that you don’t get, you keep looking until you get the one you are meant to have. When something bad happens, you look for the good in it. There is a belief that with good there might be some bad and with bad there is always good. You can’t see everything with the physical eye. We must open our hearts and listen with our ears to find the answers sometimes. Close your eyes and you will see it. It might sound ironic, but not everything is supposed to be visible. Let the science of it all go and rely on your innate instincts. We all have it if we are willing to use it. Smile, laugh, don’t be afraid, never fear, love, let life guide you, don’t try to control everything, don’t try to fix everything, take care of you, be gentle with yourself, have compassion, read, pray, meditate, eat healthy, exercise, and stop running all the time. These are some things that we all forget to do, which will hinder us from walking a path of true happiness. It does take work. Don’t just sit there and wait for happiness to knock at the door. We have to put in the effort to live our lives a certain way. One morning you will wake up and find you are not forcing a smile or crawling out of bed.

One thing WE MUST do is be grateful. This plays a major role in keeping on track. Everyday say out loud or make a list of what you are grateful for. Do this each day you wake up before you start your day. Put notes around your house to remind you or carry cards in your purse or bag to use when you feel you need a reminder. Simple things will keep you on that path of true happiness. It is not as hard as we might think even with all that is going on in our lives and the world. Don’t focus on the bad day or yesterday because that is gone. Focus on a new day, a fresh start, and a new beginning. Every day we have the opportunity to begin again. Shift your thoughts. It is all in the mind, and the mind will play tricks on us if we allow those thoughts to take over. Look in the mirror and that is where you will find true happiness. It is a natural sensation that takes over once it is inside the heart. It is like sunshine on our hearts.

Often we look to things to make us happy, and that only lasts for so long until it ends. You can’t find it on a treasure hunt or under a rock or wrapped up in a gift. It is not seen by the visible eye. It is all a thought process and how we choose to see things. Sure, we are going to have good days and bad days, but we go through it and look ahead to a new day. There is no reward in dwelling or lingering. There is only spinning in the same circle as you try to find answers that are right in front of you. The web will spin and spin until you are trapped in what you have created. True happiness comes from within and you will feel it and recognize it when it comes. You will find yourself smiling and laughing for no reason at all. Those days that drove you to insanity will just be those days. There is no reason to worry until you have something to worry about. When that happens, you have must believe it will all work out the way it is meant too. We have no control over when life happens. Insisting on having that control does not mean we have it. It is like trying to stop a truck with your bare hands. Don’t try to conquer the impossible.
