Tracey Rollin – Santa Muerte
When we think of death, we think of the ultimate fate awaiting us all. Death does not discriminate and all are equal in the eyes of death. Many regard the grim reaper as the symbol of death, robed, hooded and carrying the harvest scythe. But for millions around the world, there is a feminine personification of death and she is called “Santa Muerte.” She is associated with safe passage to the afterlife and is the patron saint of people who live on the fringes of society who often face violence and death. Her followers have also come to include the LGBT community and people who have been marginalized or whose jobs put them at a risk of death including the military and police.
My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Tracey Rollin, is the administrator of the Lovely Mother Death Facebook Group, a 69,000 member community of Santa Muerte devotees. A practitioner of chaos magic and witchcraft for more than 20 years, Tracey has dedicated herself to the advancement of consciousness, spiritual understanding and personal power. Tracey is also a registered nurse with years of emergency room and trauma experience. She joins us this week to discuss her just published Red Wheel/Weiser book, Santa Muerte: The History, Rituals and Magic of Our Lady of the Holy Death.
