Rising Appalachia – We Are Resilient
Airing Thursday, 22 August 2019, 9:00 AM EST / 6:00 AM PST
“Humanity is on edge. Negativity fills the air in digital waves. Division and blame define our global conversation. RESILIENT speaks in poetic honesty in hopes of inspiring a unifying, internal force in all of us to listen more and speak less. Do not silence your rage…. find your grace within.”
As world travelers for nearly two decades, Rising Appalachia has merged multiple global music influences with their own southern roots. The stunning blend of folk, world, and urban music has become Rising Appalachia’s calling card. Founded by sisters Leah and Chloe Smith, the band established an international fan base due to relentless touring, tireless activism, and no small degree of stubborn independence.
Join voice visionary Kara Johnstad and Rising Appalachia in a heartfelt conversation on the vision behind the SLOW MUSIC MOVEMENT and how we can follow Rising Appalachia’s lead and raise our voices for social justice, racial justice, environmental justice, and Indigenous rights.
“A genre-bending force of sound that uses vocal harmony, lyrical prowess, and diverse artistic collaborations to defy cultural clichés and ignite a musical revolution..”
