When we grow up in a tense and volatile environment, or when we find ourselves in such an environment as an adult—say in an abusive relationship—we tend to think of the hostility as “just life,” “the way it is.” As we tell ourselves it’s just our lot, we grow to believe it, and numb ourselves to all kinds of pain.

That is until we don’t, until we can’t take it any more.

This week’s episode of Decide to Transform is all about what you do when you can’t take it any more. It is also about bringing yourself to that point, especially if you know you need to take action and you can’t bring yourself to. Lastly, it is about the emotional, psychological, and vast personal rewards to you of doing the difficult work in your own self-interest.

Even though I have never served in the military, I know what persistent psychological warfare looks like, and feels like. Perhaps you can relate. This behavior takes place every day in many, many contexts.

Join me this week as I share some personal details of my own experience in hostile, volatile environments. I will share how this impacted me, as well as what I did—mostly mentally—to pry myself away. I know someone out there will benefit from hearing this.

Many people do not consider abuse warfare. Rest assured: it is. Happily, tools and resources exist to help all kinds of people embroiled in psychological conflict.

I invite you to tune in for a message of hope and possibility. I can tell you from personal experience that is possible to emerge from extreme hostility a stronger, loving, more giving person, also one that can insist on their own value. If you or someone you know would benefit from this message, please tune in this week. It is possible not just to survive, but to thrive afterward.
