Zara Stone – The Future of Science is Female: The Brilliant Minds Shaping the 21st Century

In the past few months, I’ve been including PSA’s (Public Service Announcements) that emphasize STEM education for young women. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. In our rapidly changing world, there is a growing need for new entrants into these fields and young women, in particular. How may we encourage young women to seek out STEM based education and careers? Who are the women who have followed that path and are making enormous contributions today? What special insights and approaches have women brought to these fields and how are they benefiting our country, our world and all of humanity?
My guest this week on Vox Novus, Zara Stone, has examined those very questions. Zara Stone is an award-winning journalist who writes for The Atlantic, The Washington Post, OneZero, Wired Magazine, Cosmopolitan, The San Francisco Chronicle, The BBC, and Forbes Magazine, among others. She was born in London, England, and moved to New York for further study. She graduated from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and jumped into the U.S. media world, reporting for The Wall Street Journal, then transitioning into on-air reporting for ABC News. Now a full-time freelance writer and author, she spends her spare time playing games in virtual reality, speed-reading (120 books a year!), hula hooping, and falling off her paddle-board. She lives in San Francisco and cares for three artificial houseplants. Her website is http://zarastone.net/ and she joins me to discuss her just published book, The Future of Science is Female—The Brilliant Minds Shaping the 21st Century.
