In my two-plus decades as an Interfaith Minister, I’ve officiated both joyous and sad services for family and friends. Offering comfort at funerals is always a challenge because grief is a highly individual process and the greatest comfort comes from sacred presence, empathic listening and offering a few compassionate words, when appropriate. From personal family experience prior to ministry, I learned that when someone loses a child, there simply are no words to comfort the bereaved. The best we can do is to create sacred loving presence in whatever form they request. But is their another form of comfort and reassurance that may be offered from the other side?
My guest this week on Vox Novus, Sandy Cowen, learned through the loss of her adult son, Jon, that transition is not an end but a new beginning. Sandy Cowen has always been dedicated to the empowerment of others as an entrepreneur, community leader and expert on the holistic healing process. Now, an author and speaker, she shares a gift she’s kept hidden for decades. Prompted by her son’s passing, Sandy is coming forward with her story to help others find peace and even joy in the face of profound loss. Her website is https://www.sandycowen.com/ and she joins me this week to share her story and her new book, “Hi Momma, It’s Me.” — How Souls Stay Connected Forever and the Power of Undying Love.
