Nan Evans Bush has been on a forty-year crusade on behalf of the countless, unnamed people whose own Near-Death Experiences had been ignored in favor of the wonderful stories of light and love. Almost no researcher wanted anything to do with these frightening or empty NDEs. It took her ten years to collect enough complete experience accounts to write the book Dancing Past the Dark, the first breakthrough study of distressing Near-Death Experiences. It was then published in 1992 in the Journal of Psychiatry. Since then, she has presented subsequent work in journal articles and at conferences, and she continues to help people with troubling NDEs. She wrote the chapter about these experiences for The Handbook of Near-Death Experiences: Thirty Years of Investigation and has presented on them widely. She is the President Emerita of IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies). She also holds a master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry and has additional studies.
