Three White Roses
Everyone loves flowers! They uplift and bring comfort and beauty, whether you are growing them in your garden, or giving or receiving them as a gift. Flowers have a way of sending out positive energy and even brightening a room. One beautiful flower in particular has a special meaning to me and my family, and that flower is the white rose. The white rose was my mother’s favorite flower, and we would give them to her on her birthday, for special holidays or occasions, or to simply show her how much we loved her. They always made her smile!
Traditionally the “White Rose” is a symbol for purity, innocence, honor, and heavenliness. It also represents the Virgin Mary, and is given when someone passes, for they are a sign of the holy and spiritual union between the departed soul and God in heaven. There are so many meanings associated with this type of rose, and there’s even a myth that the first rose on Earth was the white rose, and it miraculously transformed into different hues.
This special rose has once again touched my life and the lives of two women who recently came to one of my “Gatherings.” I hold these fifty person events about once a month, and deliver messages from the Other Side for about two hours. Many times I have told stories about how those in spirit get my attention before an event, and will sometimes inspire me to bring a particular item with me for someone I’m doing a reading for. It’s always just one thing that will mean something to someone getting the message, whether I’m doing a personal reading, or doing messages for a large audience. In the past I’ve been inspired to bring with me a star, a crystal, a small plastic turtle, and a few months ago, a stuffed Snoopy toy. The item always has special significance to the recipient, often bringing them tears of joy.
The afternoon before a recent “Gathering,” I heard in my mind the words “White Roses,” and knew that someone from the spirit world was trying to get my attention by urging me to bring white roses to the event. Usually I don’t question these promptings, but since white roses are also special to me, I had to make sure that it wasn’t a sign for me, and was instead meant for someone else. As I was driving to the event, I heard the words “White Roses” again, and knew right away that the message wasn’t meant for me. Since I know there’s a flower shop on the way there, I stopped in and purchased what they had left – three white roses.
When I got to the “Gathering,” I put the flowers on a small table beside me, and just trusted that whoever put the white roses thought in my head would guide me to the exact person who they were meant for. I was giving messages for about an hour, when the image of “Fonzie” from the old TV series “Happy Days” popped into my head. I turned to the left side of the audience and said, “Who would understand a man coming through and giving me references about Fonzie?” A mom and daughter in the second row quickly raised their hands. The daughter said she understood the reference and started smiling. Her brother who had passed was a biker with a black leather jacket, and he and his family would always refer to him as Fonzie!
Then I heard in my mind, “White Roses,” and as soon as I heard those words, I asked the mom, “Do you like roses?” “Yes,” she replied. “Well what’s your favorite color rose,” I asked. She said, “Blue.” I then explained that earlier in the day I had received a sign about white roses, and they can only mean two things to me. They can simply mean a “favorite flower” or the name “Jen or Jennie,” because white roses were my mom’s favorite flower.” She looked at her daughter, put her hand to her mouth, looked back at me and said, “Oh My God! One of my dearest and closest friends just passed away early today and her name was Jen!” Upon hearing this, I explained how I sometimes bring an item for someone when I am inspired to, walked over to the table, picked up the white roses and said, “Then these must be meant for you.” She took the flowers with tears in her eyes, and thanked me. Even though her friend Jen had passed away just hours earlier, I believe that her son and her friend Jen worked together to make sure this evening was one that she and her daughter would never forget!
I then received an email a few days later from the daughter, and she informed me that she and her mom attended Jen’s funeral service, and on the front of the memorial card were three beautiful white roses. She also shared with me that her sister had passed away last December, and wasn’t able to complete her final painting. It was a still life with flowers in a vase. Her mom walked by the painting just after Jen’s funeral, and noticed that this painting featured sunflowers and yes, you guessed it, three white roses!
Those white roses touched that wonderful mother and daughter that evening, as well as everyone who attended the Gathering, including me. The flowers even continued to remind them days later that love is eternal, and the power of love is never ending. Somehow I feel they’ll never look at white roses the same way again.
John’s Lesson
Your loved ones are constantly trying to send you signs and symbols to let you know they are okay and will always love you. These signs and symbols can come to you in many ways: Dreams, certain smells, like you mom’s perfume, your dad’s pipe tobacco, and the smell of a loved one’s favorite flower. Some people find shiny pennies and dimes, often times lights blink, the same numbers will show up again and again, or you could be thinking of a loved one and suddenly their favorite song plays on the radio. There’s a whole chapter about these signs and symbols in my latest book, The Spirit Whisperer.
Your loved ones who have passed want you to know they are around you and love you. Be open to these signs because these special and specific signs are their “Calling Cards from Heaven.”
