Debra Poneman: Living in the Miracle Zone
• There will always be doubts and detours but as long as you’re following the impulses of your heart, you’re going in the right direction.
And many, now famous transformational leaders were once your students.
Debra Poneman: And my employees. After Marci Shimoff attended my seminar, she quit graduate school to come and work for me. She became my secretary/assistant. And Janet Attwood was the first Yes to Success trainer. She tells that story of how that came about in the first chapter of her NY Times bestseller, The Passion Test.
And Deepak Chopra?
Debra Poneman: I don’t talk about that much. He’s more private about it so I respect that. But last month I moved from Chicago to Marin County and I threw away boxes and boxes full of papers that I’d kept for years but wasn’t about to bring them across the country. In one box I found the sweetest note from Deepak thanking me for providing the impetus and knowledge for him to leave his position where he worked as a doctor in a Boston hospital and embark on this new journey of showing the world the relationship between eastern and western medicine. I also found the tape where he stood up at my seminar and made the declaration of his intention. We always went around the room at the end of my Yes to Success seminars and each person made a declaration and the other people in the room would visual him or her in possession of that desire. We still do that now in the Your Year of Miracles program. Everyone is in a Miracles group and the sole purpose of the group is to support one another’s intentions with the power of our attention.
So you grew your company and mentored all these amazing people, and were about to have your own TV show and you gave it all up?
Debra Poneman:I did. Everyone said to me, “Have you gone out of your mind?” And I always answered, “Absolutely, right out of my mind and into my heart.” I had to do what I had to do to be true to myself. But it wasn’t even a choice. I was in love. I didn’t want to leave my baby girl to go to the bathroom let alone to go to Singapore which was the next place I was supposed to do a series of seminars.
