Interview with Dr. Bruce Lipton
OMTimes: Bruce, I am so glad to speak with you. Your introduction sounds so impressive, but what does your breakthrough exactly mean for us in our day-to-day lives?
Dr. Bruce Lipton: The conventional science that I was teaching when I was a professor on a medical school, was a science called ‘genetics’. Almost everybody is familiar with genetics. It explains that genes determine the characteristics of our lives. At first it was just the physical structure, but then genetics started encroach upon behavior and emotions. We started to say: “Oh my goodness, there are genes for emotions and genes for behavior”.
But what is the significance of this teaching? And the answer is profound – because when I was teaching in the medical school we taught our students that your traits are genetically controlled. But as far as we know, we didn’t pick the genes that we came with. And also, if we don’t like the genes we came with, there’s nothing we can do about it. So we’re teaching that your life is not in your control, they’re under control of the DNA, the genes. The significance about this is that we don’t select them, we can’t change them and they control us. Then by definition, we are teaching people that they are victims of their heredity. If you have cancer running in your family, then ‘be prepared‘ because if you got the gene, you’re going to get this.
