The Amazing Effects of Magnesium!

By Ginger McBride

Our health is one of the most important responsibilities we have. Without it, we cannot enjoy life to its fullest potential. Yet, while I may take our multi-vitamins, diet, and exercise accordingly, we may still feel like we aren’t at our very best. Magnesium is a mineral that many of us may not be aware of. The amazing magnesium is a cofactor of over three hundred enzyme systems that regulate biochemical reactions, protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, and blood glucose regulation. It is essential if we want to have great energy production and feel great!

When we find ourselves in magnesium deficiency, a slew of symptoms heads our way, including muscle cramps, mental health issues, weak bones, fatigue, weak muscles, high blood pressure, asthma, and irregular heartbeat. With symptoms like those, no wonder magnesium is so important!

We can find foods that are rich in magnesium to absorb it naturally. Many dark, leafy greens have it, but if we look for more delicious ways to get it, we can partake in whole wheat, quinoa, black beans, almonds and cashews, dark chocolate, edamame, avocado, and tofu. We can find some creativity and get cooking to make some tasty meals to get that magnesium that our body needs!

If we are looking for a solution for convenience’s sake, we should go to our nearest vitamin or mineral store. They will have an array of minerals to choose from, different brands, and knowledgeable staff that can direct us to the highest quality products. It’s understandable when many of us are constantly on the go, and we need something quick and sustainable to keep those nutrients up! A healthy daily dose for men from nineteen and up will range from 400-420 mg. While for women from nineteen and up will range from 310 to 320mg. One of the great things about this day and age is that it can come in various forms, from capsule to powder to extract, and we can choose which option fits best for us!

Whichever decision we choose, whether through food, supplements, or both! We are bound to start feeling better soon. Of course, we can consult our doctors for any added clarity needed with any supplement or diet changes. We each have our own bio-genetic makeup that is unique to us, and each of us will need specific nutrients and minerals to stay in balance. Unfortunately, nutrient-rich foods can be hard to come by these days, but the good news is we have many options available. When we find that balance that we seek, we should have the energy to take on the day and manage tasks without excessive stress. What we feel affects our moods and behaviors and, ultimately, our life in every way. If we find ourselves irritable at the world around us, we may just need a healthy dose of magnesium or other minerals to create our balance again!
