May Flowers for Feng Shui
Plant a Garden to Improve your Fortune
by Ken Lauher
If April showers (and, in some regions, more than mere showers) bring May flowers, then it’s time to start thinking about a Feng Shui garden. In Feng Shui, plants and flowers infuse a living environment with life chi, and can be used to empower different sections of the Ba Gua in your yard, as well as indoors. If you haven’t begun planting yet, it’s not too late to start.
It’s important to remember that dead or dying flowers are unfavorable chi. If you place fresh cut flowers in your home, be sure to replace them as soon as they begin wilting. If you are planting a garden in your yard or even on your rooftop or in flower boxes, make sure to choose flowers appropriate to your region and climate for gardening success. You don’t want to create frustrations (and unfavorable Feng Shui) for yourself with a garden plagued by weeds, bugs or dying plants and flowers.
If you don’t perceive yourself to have a green thumb, you have two choices. You can change that perception by reading books or taking a course on gardening and determining that you will have a successful garden, or just select hearty plants that grow well with little care. When you plant and tend your garden, use love, care and intention. People who are passionate about gardening talk about having a true connection with the earth and flowers. Rather than looking at your garden as just another chore, consider it a way to reconvene with nature and show love to other living things that, in turn, add beauty, power, and life chi to your surroundings.
Your Garden and the Feng Shui Ba Gua
Let’s begin our Feng Shui garden by first laying the Ba Gua over the yard to determine the nine trigrams. People are often confused when they lay the Ba Gua over a yard, and that’s because there are actually two ways to do it. Use your intuition as well as your sense of aesthetics to determine which way is best for your specific space. (Read on and I’ll also share a powerful technique that can actually exponentially multiply the power of certain Feng Shui remedies.)
1. You can overlay the bagua on the entire lot based on the driveway or entrance into the lot. If you are standing in the driveway looking towards the house, the back left corner of the yard is the wealth corner and the back right corner is the relationship corner. The helpful people area is in the front right section of the lot and so on.
