2026 Leo New Moon Solar Eclipse

The huge energetic rewiring of the past month is now leading to a huge reset. That is the effect and the gift of the 2026 Leo New Moon solar eclipse.
How huge is it? For starters, it’s a total solar eclipse, blotting out the sky and time momentarily while an upgraded operating system is installed in each of us. The upgrade is in the sign of the self, increasing the strength and reach of our light. That’s undergone recent amplification, with the Sun and the Moon each having just met with Jupiter and his knack for supersizing. And now this expansion pack is being woven into our beings, and launching our next phase.
For another reason, it’s in an eclipse family that is catapulting us into pulling off maximum self-expression in the midst of collective experience. This is the second of the Leo/Aquarius eclipses, which run from February 2026 – January 2028. All of them are solar eclipses, shutting out people and situations while leveling us up, without the drastic revelatory streak of lunar eclipses.
The first eclipse in the cycle, February’s Aquarius New Moon, foreshadowed the current position of the north node, which just shifted into Aquarius at the end of July and is pointing toward collective or community power and existence. That eclipse jumpstarted the evolutionary journey that is now underway.
That first eclipse, on February 17, is also tied to the third reason that the Leo eclipse is huge. The Aquarius solar eclipse occurred days before Saturn and Neptune’s consciousness-rebooting conjunction at 0 Aries on February 20. The potentials seeded then, of bringing spirit and creativity into physical form, are blossoming in the waves of basket configurations that have been forming in the sky in the past month.
They began mid-July with the outer planets connecting at 4 degrees of their signs – the configuration widely known as Barbault’s Basket — with Uranus in Gemini sextiling Neptune in Aries and trining Pluto in Aquarius (which also sextiled Neptune), and Jupiter putting a lid on their linkages by sextiling Uranus, trining Neptune and opposing Pluto. One translation: heightening raw, authentic expression of the self, embracing new possibilities and breaking from limiting concepts, and pulling power from, and for the betterment of, a deep, communal well.
This mingling will continue to grow and grow as the three outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, travel in sync for the next few years, with their connections tightening again in June of 2027 and 2028. They’ve already undergone more waves of blossoming, though, since that initial basket.
The rewiring became personal (and maximized a monarchy vs. the masses dynamic) at the end of July, when the Sun and, briefly, the Moon followed Jupiter’s path and made the same connections with the outer planets. These contacts galvanized our selves and hearts in ways that take us to the grand horizons of August’s solar eclipse.
Now Mercury in Leo is creating the same basket, igniting minds and ideas and encouraging claiming the spotlight and taking the mic, as the solar eclipse ignites a dramatic new phase in each of us. That this phase is but part of a multi-year process is built into the event and this eclipse family. The first eclipse, in February 2026, sensitized the last degree of Aquarius, where the North Node is beginning its journey through the sign. The last eclipse, in January 2028, will occur at the degree of the June 2027 basket and operate as a clean-up batter, setting that upgraded rewiring into further motion.
How we treat each other is a factor in this upgrade. Venus, ruler of all we value, is forming an air grand trine with Uranus and Pluto, unleashing sudden, deep and permanent changes in relationships and dynamics. She’s connecting to the entirety of the basket Mercury is creating, by sextiling both him and Neptune, facilitating loving and creative communications and creativity. She’s, in fact, acting as a handle on the basket – exactly as the Libra Moon did on July 19 – signaling that relationships and agreements are what move this basket along, and specifically radically new ways of interacting with each other.
What does this have to do with you? Everything. Review what the past month or so has awakened or changed in you. What are you now seeing as possible? What inspirations have kindled? What passions are burning in you? How have your friend groups and community changed? What new ground rules are they following? What do you want to share with the world? Where do you feel called?
All these questions point to the new way of being coming from this solar eclipse. Concerned about baggage?
