June has significantly less astrological activity than what each month has brought us this year. The skies are encouraging cocooning and connecting emotionally while we build up to July’s big shifts.
We’re more openly and unabashedly tender, sensitive, and feeling-driven from the start. Mercury enters Cancer June 1 for an uncharacteristically long stay – yes, another retrograde is in the works – and sidelines logic well into August. We’ve been through a lot, and don’t be surprised when more and more people open up about what has been and is going on with them.
Before the waters take over, look for ways to anchor your ideas in authority and expertise when the Sun sextiles Saturn on June 2.
And then communications soften. Mercury’s first days in Cancer stir yearning for the ways things were or, more likely, a romanticized or fantastical vision of a past that may not have existed. Feel those feels if you will, but look for another, forward-looking possibility. The same cause – a square from Mercury to Neptune in Aries – is also igniting inspired vision and creativity. Notice what flares up inside you and follow it.
Nostalgia and sentimentality permeate thinking, conversations, and messaging. People may be processing information in terms of what it means for or about them (in other words, taking things personally). Prickliness and crabbiness will be on the rise, but so will moments of pouring our hearts out and feeling heard and comforted.
Desires for attention and connection swell when Venus meets expansive Jupiter on June 9. Ends of equations may not match, though, with Mercury squaring Saturn the next day. One side may put up a wall, say no, or claim the lead; one side may push for hashing things out and reaching certainty.
Sociability is not likely to suffer. When Venus enters Leo on June 13, it’s time to dress up, head outside, and share your particular flair with the rest of the world. High energy, generosity and more than a hint of grandstanding warm all our interactions for the next month. This is gold jewelry and oversized dark glasses at brunch and the beach territory. Even introverts may find themselves showing up in public and taking selfies.
All of our relationships, and our drive for self-expression, are in for updates. The Gemini New Moon leads the way on June 15, encouraging flexibility, curiosity, and diversifying in projects and goals. (You may discover a talent for multitasking; it’ll serve you soon.)
Helpful shakeups are part of the mix, with Venus’ sextile to Uranus awakening desires for different ways of relating. Exit doors are opening for relationships that don’t have room for expressing yourself; entrances are also beckoning for connections that do, and that may come by surprise.
The plot twists, opportunities, and breakthroughs are part of the prep for the rewiring that’s coming in July. From the 13th to the 17th, Venus is running the gauntlet of the outer planets that will be joining forces then. Each contact informs what we want and value, how we create, and how we treat each other.
After relationships, desires, and values crackle with Uranian electricity, they move into lovely, lovely territory, connecting earthly experience with poetry and escapism and transcendence. Venus meets the other guardian of love and inspiration, Neptune, in the open current of a trine on June 16. Their teamwork delivers balm to hearts and spirits and encourages dreaminess and fantasy and artistry that bypasses the mind.
Soul love abounds, but whether that translates into workable, real-world relationships is another matter. The question comes into focus the next day, when Venus opposes Pluto, her counterpart in desire and money. The stand-off highlights desires that are unattainable or come at a cost, either of which could end up increasing the appeal.
The ability is within reach to talk about situations with a blend of emotion and sensibility. That promise is built into the solstice, which happens when the Sun enters Cancer on June 21.
Stabilizing, structure, and commitment follow at Venus’ trine to Saturn June 25, even at the cost of facing a deep fear or letting a deep attachment go (as required by the Sun’s inconjunct to Pluto June 26).
The month’s final days carry an emotional tsunami warning, as one 12-year cycle peaks and ends – with a review and clean-up period on its heels — and the next one begins. Jupiter is wrapping up a year-plus in the sign of Cancer, and its finale is an open door to Mars in Taurus on June 28. Both planets are at the very end of their signs, in the most extreme expressions. Look for practical, worldly, financial action to experience bounty and increase. Or to soften with family issues, nurturing, and caretaking. Or to tackle family issues, nurturing and caretaking, or to prompt claiming more and more and more…
And then to fly off into a multitude of options and possibilities. Mars immediately leaves Jupiter for the freewheeling ways of Gemini. The next six weeks promise an uptick in activity, juggling, multitasking, and darting from one endeavor to another.
But not just yet. Before life zooms ahead, attention turns to the past, as Mercury stations retrograde on the Capricorn Full Moon on June 29. Mercury is retrograde through July 23, revisiting territory that Jupiter has traveled over since early April. Miscommunications are always a factor during any Mercury retrograde; the catch for this one is that emotions are also coloring what we’re saying and hearing.
The usual retrograde cautions apply: Double-check language and details. Avoid entering into major contracts or purchases. Allow time for delays, travel snarls, and machinery breakdowns. Use this stretch to explore events during Jupiter’s recent travels, address misunderstandings, and clean up unfinished business.

This retrograde kicks off with the reality check of the Capricorn Full Moon. It’s a counterweight to the Cancer high tide. Pragmatic to the point of calculating, this moon lights up how stable and secure you feel.
And yet, good times beckon. The month closes with Jupiter launching a 13-month tour of Leo, vibrant, dramatic, and life-force-enhancing. The switchover from Cancer to Leo is a recurrence of July 2014, but it’s worth noting where Jupiter is heading rather than where he’s been. The sign change is the energetic signal that the dance of the outer planets is nigh. He’ll be joining them mid-July, when our experience of reality, and of ourselves, is rewired.
