Exploring Your Map Using Oracle Cards
We have all enjoyed pulling on oracle card and enjoying the message for the day, had fun exploring info about an angel, goddess or totem animal or even consulted the classic Tarot for information on what may happen with that great looking guy who smiled at you at Starbuck’s. Card readings are fun, interesting, and there is most certainly a place for using oracle and tarot tools as elements of divination and guidance.
But have you ever yearned for a way to use your favorite oracle cards to dig deeper into your own psyche and find the answers you know are so very close, yet somehow hidden to you? If you work as a coach, intuitive or healer, have you felt there was more depth to be found within your readings or coaching sessions when using cards? My answer to both of those questions and needs is a resounding YES! YES! YES! we can!
Using my IN-Vizion Process™, which I created for my book, The Map, and The Enchanted Map Oracle Cards, I have devised a system to use the cards as a springboard for a depth of opening up and conversation that still amazes and thrills me and I use it every single day!
Often we seek answers for questions that mask the deeper, core issues of the soul. For example; you may wish to know what to do about a fight with a co-worker, but the deeper issue may be much more telling…why do you create situations in which you take on too much responsibility, refuse to ask for help when needed (or accept help when offered), until your frustration reaches a boiling point and you explode?
By asking leading questions, engaging in an inner dialogue,and exploring the archetypal images presented within the cards, we are able to bridge the unconscious and conscious, much as presented by the esteemed Carl Jung.
Carl Jung (1875-1961), the father of Jungian psychology, believed that symbol creation was one of the keys to understanding human nature. Jung defined a symbol as the best expression for something unknown. He compared the similarity of symbols found in various religious, mythological, and metaphysical systems throughout time.
Jung suggested two layers of unconscious psyche; personal unconscious, or what one acquires in life, but forgets or represses. The second layer is the collective unconscious which contains the memory common to all humanity. These experiences form archetypes, which are built-in predispositions to experience and symbolize people, places, and situations in a similar manner. Jung added that the deepest layers of the unconscious work separately from the laws of space, time and causality, such as psychic phenomena.
I built upon his ground-breaking work to bring this line of thought into using oracle cards, thus allowing the archetypal unconscious to come to the forefront to be discussed and explored. By becoming aware of these archetypal patterns and deep seated, often completely buried ways of thinking and feeling, we can then begin to shift and change these energies into positive ones that better serve us in our lives.
For example; you pulled a card from my The Enchanted Map Oracle Card deck to help you with your job and it is Details, Details in an upright position. Of course, the symbolism is obvious! Pay attention to details on your job! Now is not the time to rush or gloss over the fine points at your work, pay attention to nuances and the smallest of detail. That is an easy one. Or so you think!
Now, to employ the tools of Divination Dynamix we would look at the card and ask what core elements within you are represented within this card? What hidden treasures are pointed out by this card?
We will discover the answers by asking the three questions that form the basis of the IN-Vizion Process…Where are you in this card? When are you? Who are you listening to within this card?
Back to our example card, Details Details. As you ask yourself the above questions about the symbols on the card, the mouse, the magnifying glass, the compass and you realize that each symbol holds so much more meaning than you first thought. Actually, as you know you DO pay great attention to details, you almost dismissed the card as obvious.
Where are you in this card? You are stuck within the pages of the books as you dot every “i” and cross every “t”. You are completely and totally immersed and caught up in double and triple checking every little minute detail of every aspect of the card…and your life. You place yourself under the magnifying glass and examine every step you take or have taken. Ah yes, your Quintessential Perfectionist and Control Freak may be sitting right inside the Details, Details card!
When are you in this card? You are lost in the past, mired there, as you think about what you could have done or should have done…reliving every confrontation, every situation, every conversation over and over again. You are literally stuck in your own personal Groundhog Day movie, without Bill Murray!
Who are you listening to? You are listening to the little doubting voice that tells you that you are not good enough, you never have been and you never will be.
By listening to these powerful answers coming from these three questions you will be able to dig even more deeply into your self-doubts which cause the lack of self worth that forces you to hide behind the perfectionism and control. You may not feel as if you have any control over the big picture of your life, but will do everything you can to control every small detail. Having an awareness of and identifying these issues will allow you to begin to embrace your Goblins (Shadows) who emerged and take those first steps to be able to move on. Of course, changing a lifetime of patterns that are deeply ingrained in your subconscious will not take place in the blink of an eye after examining an Oracle Card, but the process will begin and you will then be able to move forward in your healing at a much faster pace. The choice is yours! This dialogue around our Details, Details card is an example of a brief exploration possible us.
By knowing where and when you are on your Map, and who you are listening to, you will be able to name the fear and then tame it. This is the beauty, the magic of The Map and Divination Dynamix! I always say, “Wait for the Miracle to happen” and it will!
