About Dirk Terpstra

Growing up in The Netherlands in the sixties, Dirk Terpstra experienced the strong and unconditional love of his tight-knit family, had lots of fun with a close group of friends but he also experienced that your health is something to be very grateful for. As from the young age of 6, Dirk’s parents took him to the Swiss Alps to help recover him from chronic bronchitis.

At the age of 35 he thought that he had realized everything that he could realize – fifteen years of developing corporate strategies, building new divisions, introducing international product lines brought him to a position as General Corporate Manager for American Express. But deep inside Dirk knew that this wasn’t his purpose. Would he listen to this whispering little voice within?

This little voice had always told him that freedom, nature, being kind and joyful were his true essence and that it is more natural to collaborate than to compete. After only ‘listening’ to his inner voice for a long time it was now time to act!

In 2001 Dirk and his wife decided to sell their beautiful house in The Netherlands and he told American Express that he had ‘other things to do’. In January of 2002 they emigrated, together with their 2 little sons, to the mountains in West Canada. Skiing, mountain biking, running, hiking, kayaking and just enjoying the views from their deck were their daily activities. Life couldn’t get any better and soon Dirk also found himself running a travel business from his home.

But then, a series of events deeply impacted his life. In a time span of 11 years his dad died, his 5 year older brother lost his life, a friend died in an accident and finally his dearest mom passed away. He had never felt that low in his entire life and he asked himself but foremost the Universe: “Do I have a choice”? “Yes” was the answer and Dirk started accepting the pain, he even started embracing it. Then, something beautiful happened… he began to see the light and felt an infinite love inside and realized: I am Love! These dark events were his gift and this gift had lifted him higher than ever before – It was his healing!

In the fall of 2012 Dirk Terpstra decided to spread the light, kindness, love, peace and happiness that lives inside each one of us. He founded his non-profit organization “Super Souls” and started interviewing inspiring people. His often very personal interviews soon gained in popularity and Dirk is now a featured columnist of OMTimes.
