November’s Scorpio New Moon is a relatively straightforward event. It’s operating all on its own, without pressure or assistance from any other bodies. Yet while it’s its own event, it is not without input. It’s a milestone moment in the overlapping retrogrades of Venus and Mercury and all that their journeys have dredged up and revisited and reanimated.
A new moon launches a new phase. In Scorpio, it brings great focus and deep and meaningful experiences, perhaps laden with power. This one grows out of what we have been exploring and realizing since Venus entered Scorpio September 10 and Mercury followed September 30.
Secrets, undercurrents, subconscious factors, misunderstandings, deceit and more have been surfacing in our relationships, finances, agreements, creativity, values, thinking, conversations, information streams…
… all of which began drawing on the past and all manner of hiding places when both Venus and Mercury began their current retrogrades in that sign – Venus on October 3, Mercury October 24.
The past few weeks have delivered moments of awareness of truths and non-negotiables – particularly when each of the retrogrades met with the Scorpio Sun, Venus on October 23 and Mercury November 4. That awareness, those truths, those non-negotiables and the rest of our retrograde experiences flow into the processes of the Scorpio New Moon.
We go into it knowing not only more clearly, but also more viscerally and unshakably, what we must have and what we are absolutely, irrevocably done with. You may not have been able to put your realizations into words, but you have felt them in the core of your being. That clarity is driving the goals, intentions and new phases that are unfolding now.
So what is it? Where do you want to put your focus? Where do you want to go deep? How are you ready to reshape your life to fit how reality is evolving?
The process might be more non-verbal and subterranean than with most new moons. Follow your instincts; follow your gut. The Moon’s ruler Pluto also has a role to play in transforming the retrograde experiences into conscious understanding and next stages. Pluto has finished the first phase of his journey through Aquarius, restructuring power and resources from the sign’s initial degrees. He’s been underscoring the ending of that phase by sitting since the second week of August at 3 Aquarius, where he stationed direct October 15 and where he remains until December 19.
That standstill has been directing attention to something. Probably several somethings. What fundamental, evolutionary, no-going-back-level changes have you felt in yourself and your life? Some part of you recognizes the enormity and permanence of the changes in you, your life and the world. This Moon reminds us that some previous components are forever gone, and it’s ushering more out.
Jupiter conjunct the South Node is amplifying and escalating departures of so many situations that were integral to our experience and expression of ourselves. With both in Leo, the sign of the child, many of us could be undergoing a massive loss of innocence or accelerating departure from childhood – especially those whose age might suggest they went through this decades ago. (Exhibit A: late-50s’ Boomers, who have Jupiter and the South Node moving across their Plutos.)
Possibly you feel isolated. Possibly you feel alone. People and circumstances that defined your life are no longer there. But what abides? You.
And you’ve got the tools for this moment. One gift of these dual retrogrades has been experiencing the power and accuracy of your perception. Commit to it. Let it be a guiding force as we move further into the strange unknown.
