A New Spiritual and Intuitive You! Day 10

Life Purpose

When I stopped ‘working’ 9 years ago to stay home with my son, I had a big identity crisis. I never thought I’d be someone without a ‘career’. Over the years, I’ve realized that, culturally, we have our identities wrapped up in our work.

Even when you are fortunate enough to not have to work, even choosing NOT to work seems to make people uncomfortable.  But really, who is more uncomfortable, those who say they don’t work, or the people they tell that to? The ultimate question of, “Who am I?” comes from our trying to identify ourselves with what we do.   It begs more questions, such as,  “What do I do? “Do I have to do something?”  “If I don’t, then what will people think?” or more, “what do I think about myself?”

Ultimately, it’s not about who you are, it’s more about what you think of yourself. Even though you may have a job or a career in something, it’s not what you spend all your time on, nor does it define who I you are.  It’s one thing you do, along other things that make up “you”.   We are often influenced by what our parents think.  They have to get over that too.  Parents often like to say that their off spring are “such and such”. But it’s just a label.

When we die and pass over, the value of what we do in life, isn’t a career, or job we’ve had, it’s about who we are and what we have done from our hearts both for others and for ourselves. Those of us who have the opportunity to see that now, in this life, can live our lives more fully. That’s what is so fascinating about the stories of those who have had near death experiences. They’ve seen what was and is valuable in their lives, and have brought that back to share with us.  Their message is that love is the most important thing in life, and what you do to share that with others is most important.   We’re here to fulfill our soul’s purpose for us, which we find through what we’re passionate about.
