Illuminate the Committee in Your Head – Day 20

Illuminate  the Committee in your Head Day 20

Committee Meeting Congratulations, you are two-thirds through the 30 Day Challenge. You have recognized subpersonalities/committee members, identified the self/chair and worked with each to increase awareness and communication among these fragmented parts of the whole. Today you will begin the integration phase of your work with a committee meeting.

Begin by noting a name or drawing a little symbol to represent each committee member you have identified so far. Mentally invite each into a safe place in the realm of your imagination, and ask each member to introduce themselves to the others. Then ask if any of them have any business they would like to discuss. This may sound simplistic, yet it is this awareness and consideration of each fragment that builds toward the integration. You may experience peaceful dialogue and epiphanies or arguing and frustration and everything in between. As the chair, remember what you have learned about shifting emotions, shifting attention, stepping out of the triangle of victim/bully/rescuer. Are some parts of you bullying other parts of you? When two parts come together is transformation possible? Allow a free flowing unfolding of events and trust that whatever you imagine is exactly what your committee needs to experience in the moment. When you mind drifts or you judge the process, the chair will call the meeting back into order.

An example may be helpful. Once upon a time there met a committee who consisted of a chair, an angry cat, an anxious old man, a little girl who never left the woods, a cookie-baking grandmother, a witch, a worm, a mouse, and beautiful woman on the beach. During their meeting the committee’s addiction to cigarettes was on the agenda. The chair asked the worm to the center of a circle made by the rest of them. The worm dissolved while the woman grew wings. The anxious old man relaxed as the angry can purred. The others just felt good. Approach your meeting with an open mind.
