Assessing Relationships

Throughout our life, we have relationships with other individuals. These relationships may be labeled as passersby, acquaintances, friends, best friends, and intimate. Family members would also be considered, labeling as immediate and extended family. As the saying goes, people come into our life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. It is not always up to us to determine the reason or the length of a relationship. Of course, we will always be related to family members.

Take a moment to assess the relationships in your life. Are they healthy and balanced? Are some of your relationships unhealthy and leave you feeling drained? Perhaps, it is time to establish some boundaries for yourself AND to honor yourself and what you are feeling by speaking your truth in regards to these relationships. As you make the mindful effort to maintain healthy relationships and end unhealthy ones, you are taking control of your life. The Law of Attraction assists in bringing new people into your life as previous relationships come to a close.

I recently made the conscious choice to end some relationships that I perceived to be unhealthy and imbalanced. I have always been one to “hang on” because I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. In reality, I was hurting myself and feeling compromised. It’s okay to have boundaries and choose who you want in your life.

I tell my clients “Hold your heart in your hands and release everything that is not love ~ as love is all there is.” This statement is a simple reminder to let go of anything and everyone that doesn’t come from a place of love. The feelings of fear, anger, resentment, frustration, worry, and jealously serve no purpose in our lives. With that said, know that you are worthy to have those individuals in your life who are worthy to have you as a friend.



Questions to Consider:

1. When assessing my current relationships, I feel ____________________________________.

  • Are they healthy and beneficial or are they draining?
  • Are they balanced or a bit lop-sided?
  • Do you tend to be the one maintaining the relationship?
  • After spending time or chatting on the phone with this person, do you tend to be moody or do you feel joyful?

2. I acknowledge that I have healthy relationships with these individuals __________________.
